He's played 22 league games this season. He's now out with a calf strain with 5 to play.

I think out of 38 league games, you're hoping for 25. So he's probably available for about 2/3. Maybe if you're a bit less reliant on him and able to rest him here and there (or just lucky) you might get 26/27.

He was free for a very good reason. That calf is completely wrecked.

Need to sign a replacement and use James as the luxury when fit. You build round the other player not James.

This is not a criticism or a sell shout or whatever, but we are too reliant on a player we cannot rely on to be fit. It would not happen at a bigger club.

We need to sign someone else and build round them. When James is fit he will do things that he does but he absolutely cannot be plan A. It's not sustainable.

Again, i have to wonder if nothing more can be done about that troublesome calf of his? surgery? focussed rehabilitation?

He's great, but we simply can't afford to be without him for half of a season...

He's great, but while he's here we'll be trying to build around him, and that's always going to be a house of cards. I think in the long run, having him here is doing more harm than good. And that's hard for me to say, because like everyone else, I love seeing him in blue.

Love James but his injuries mean we cannot rely on him and given Iwobi, Bernard, Gomes and Sig(set pieces aside) offer little in creativity we need another mobile creative player.

Our medical staff really need to figure out what is going on, sadly they never seem to have been that great on recurring injuries.
My gut feeling is that because we rely on him so much he's rushed back at 70% fit. He was, until recently, being given an hour to 70mins. To me that suggests trying to manage an ongoing injury.

Grade 1 or 2 muscle tears need a combination of time, rest and strengthening routines. I'm guessing he's had an ongoing grade 1 strain they've tried to manage and it's tipped over into grade 2 in the warm up.

We're so short of options I can see why they'd do it, but its a false economy in some ways.
