Really don't get this assumption from some that he's gonna be off (not from you Mac, I know).
He's by all accounts happy here, loves the manager, fans love him, is by far the best player we have.
We just need to add more quality around him. He's won everything there is in the club game, he's in no rush to be back sitting on the bench at Madrid and where else is he gonna go at 29/30?
PSG maybe? They have Di Maria for that role and will be plying every available fund they have into signing Messi should he leave Barca.
I don't see any reason he won't be here next year. I don't see him staying 5 or 6 years, but he'll be here for one more at least. And I reckon he'll enjoy the crowds at Goodison next year.
The crucial thing this summer is signing someone with quality who can play instead of him. James is quality but he should be the plan B who you slot in when fit, rather than relying on him as plan A.

That quality player has to have everything that James doesn't have in terms of athleticism, pace etc. So it's not just 'one or the other' - both can play together if needed.
I banged on about this all last summer and in January but one quick, goal-scoring winger (wide forward) adds so much to our side because it gives us the ability to play in about 3 different ways, whether that's having that player to come off the bench, or start in a front three with James in midfield, or play a 4-2-3-1 with James central etc. It's not just about having plan a, b, or c. That's not the way to be successful.
I don't see that but if he does want away then at least we would get a decentish fee for him.
Bigger clubs than us with serious stuff to play for aren't likely to let him pick and choose which games he fancies playing in, and so I think he'll recognise that he's on to a good thing here. I don't even mean that to have a go at him, it is what it is, but I think it's clear that's what's happening with him at the moment and as this one player pretty much is 'bigger than the club' as they say, we're content to let him do it on the basis that he delivers when he's on the pitch.

Dunno. He's at an age where he needs to be winning things / where he has one final 'big' move left in him. Who will take him as a marquee signing after he's been plodding around 8th place with us for two/three years on the back of injury after injury? Could be the perfect time for him to call quits on this experiment.

Tbf I think there is probably an agreement with him whereby we have to accept x amount if somebody offers it. We got him for free, apparently, so there's no way it's any kind of normal contract he signed.
