Based on what? He played when his calf allowed him to, same reason he’s no able to play for his beloved Colombia.
James did whatever he could but unfortunately was injured a lot as he always has been, where have you seen him not fussed? He even did all the daft promo stuff asked of him too, giving out a big cheesy grin and pointing at the badge whenever asked for a photo or video so I don’t get what more you wanted from him?
The one thing that really stood out was throwing his hand in v Fulham and asking to be subbed after a ‘ tarts tackle‘, and see my reply to Sassy, I’m not writing that again.

Well he played for about sixty minutes out of the last six games, his injury started off as a ‘twinge’ when he pulled out of a game duringbthe kick in, missed the next game and the one after that with the same twinge, then he played then he was ‘tired‘ for the next game and finally suffering from ‘fatigue’ and flew home to profess himself fit for Colombia, well that might be not fussed about playing for Everton, maybe not to some but it is definitely taking the pxss as far as I’m concerned. Sassy I think you are close to being in love with James, so you might be a tiny bit biased towards him, don’t you think?
You’re taking what Ancelotti, a now proven bullshitter, said as gospel in his press conferences. Perhaps he said a ‘twinge’, ‘fatigue’ etc. in the hope that he would be back soon and so as not to announce the injury prone star has yet another injury to add to his reputation until they knew if it was serious or not.

My take on it is that James clearly has a recurring calf issue and nobody knows how to treat it properly or judge how long it will take him to get back to full fitness. I would imagine that’s just as frustrating for him as it is for us.

Doubt if it is as frustrating for him as it is for us, he’s picking up brewsters every week while taking the pxss, as for Ancelotti he was taking the pxss as well, strangely we won more matches without the pxss taker than we did with him.

I feel like he was very frustrated sitting out of matches after the Anfield win and watching his teammates piss away European football but if you think he was happy picking up his wedge and didn’t care that’s your opinion.

Yeah we ground out some boring wins without him last season but all the bits I remember, the highlights, came from his involvement. Some of the goals and moves he was involved in up to him getting clattered in the first derby where he linked with Digne and Richarlison were the best football I’ve ever seen in blue (I’m 32), his goal against Leicester, his goal against Palace his assist at Anfield - he was the thing I enjoyed watching the most last season.

Yes ‘picking up his wedge‘ is my honest opinion. All those moments you enjoyed James taking part in, I enjoyed them too, brilliant, easy to admit because it’s the truth. In those same games he went missing for good parts of the game, he never finished most games, sure it’s true, we knew what we were getting, if he could stay fit Real Madrid wouldn’t have let him go, every top club would have been after him, that’s why he finished up at Everton, very good in some parts of many games, but to me he wasn’t value for money, if he comes back he still won’t be value for money. If he does come back it will make you very happy and I won’t begrudge you that, and I’ll enjoy his brilliant spells.

But you are talking about an injury that he has no control over it. James has a very competitive personality and he really wants to play. He gets frustrated when he is not starting. Now looking back at Ancelotti statements on James’ fitness, he was the one misleading us by not really telling us the full extent of James injuries as it was prove by Colombia NT doctors when they reported to Rueda that he wasn’t 100% fit to play.

Hahaha. Nice try, Cameron. I’m definitely not in love with James. I support my Colombia sportsman and women so I may be a tiny bit bias because of that but no because I’m enamored :p

It is more a question of attitudes and professionalism. There have been several rumors, in several clubs, that JR does not train hard enough, and that he does not take care of his body as a top athlete should do. This also contributes to being injured far more frequently. However, if the problem is as big as some say, then it is a scandal of Everton's medical staff to approve the transfer.

I do not demand that JR run around telling how much he loves Everton, etc., but I expect him to behave like a professional footballer. That was what the Colombian manager expected, and at this level you can not plan and set up your game for players who are not 100 percent. Although they can hit a magic pass or two.
You stated it correctly, it has always been rumors not concrete proof. Most of this was gossip was spread early on during his time at Real Madrid. Rumors promoted by sensationalist Spanish and Colombian press that fabricated stories in order to make profits out of his expense. For as long as I have followed James, he always seems very devoted to his training and fitness because he is very competitive in nature and his desire is always to play and be on the field with his club and with Colombia’s National Team. Like some have said here, maybe he is indeed made of glass because of his persistent calf injuries but in my opinion it would be unfair to say that he doesn’t take care of himself and that his attitude hasn’t been professional during his time at Everton. It is not like he was out partying or having a bunch of gals around drinking at his place like footballers such as Naymar and others do. He is a single dad currently raising a toddler son almost on his own, with some help from his mother, while also being a footballer. At Everton he had mostly good performances this season when he was fit. He managed to help the team win some meaningful matches, let’s not forget the importance of beating Liverpool at Anfield. If he was given some leisure at Everton, such as leaving early to go to Colombia before the end of the season then the one to blame is Ancelotti not James.

Now when it comes to Colombia, Rueda didn’t leave him out because of his lack of professionalism, he left him out because he was still injured. Rueda, unlike previous managers, decided not to take a footballer that was not 100% fit and James wasn’t very happy about this decision because, as he claimed in a recent Instagram conversation, he had been asked before to perform for the NT when injured. So of course it took him by surprise such decision and he is hurt. His ego is wounded and he felt he needed to express himself about it. His statements were made with passion and were taken out of context, The reality is that his magic passes were missed the first game of Copa America. Colombia definitely plays better with James in midfield so I would think he will be returning to the NT in
the future. And hopefully he will be returning to Everton too. He has a year left in his contract and he said it would be good for him to comeback to play as a Blue one more year. If finishing his contract is not professionalism then what is it?

I agree with everything @Sassy Colombian has posted in the last couple of pages.

I imagine any Everton manager would want to have James in the squad even if only for 20-25 games a season.

Hopefully we can manage his injuries better.

I do tend to think that the maximum - and this is based on his career - we'll get out of him is what we did last year, in terms of minutes (the fourth most in a season since his move to Monaco).

So it's more about not being so heavily reliant on him than managing his injuries, I'd say, first and foremost.

And then you can, in turn, manage him better because you have other options.
