2021/22 James Rodriguez

He simply isn't our best player. DCL and Richarlison are far more important and effective players for us.

Too much overhyping of the player in this thread. He's not make or break, because we cannot rely on him to be available.

He is our best player, by an absolute mile.

He's not our most important player ( I didn't say he was )

But if we can get him fit playing most games he'd improve us like no other player in our squad would, he's magical.

I don't understand why people can't grasp this. And used sparingly his fitness shouldn't be as big an issue either.

I still half expect him to go but if we're subsidising a big portion of his salary I think it's stupid.
100%

We are not good enough - over the course of the season our squad isn't strong enough - to be paying James Rodriguez to be playing for anyone but Everton.

Revisionism is an art to the scorned Evertonian. We have perfected it.

This is what is going on when people talk about his talent now. Last year the best thing ever, now he's Tom Davies.

I know we do that to protect ourselves from the hurt if/when he does leave but lids saying he doesn't offer anything are clearly sniffing glue. He is our best player and it's up to the manager to get him on the pitch with the right teammates to get the most ot of him if he stays. Him alongside Siggy and Gomes does not work, if you had him with Doucs and Allan and Gray it will.

Who would you most want from our squad to put a defence killing pass to someone like Gray/Richarlison? It's obvious.

Can he just leave? He doesn't play even half the games, doesn't work hard, guaranteed big wages and wont play this season as we know. Skill doesn't matter when he's not on the pitch and Rafael obviously doesn't want him on the pitch.

Incorrect.

Works hard when he plays. He just doesn't have the legs to go sprinting around. But he doesn't need to when he's on the ball.

If he stays, then he could be the difference between us getting Europe or not.

What if Burnley come a week next Monday and suddenly our plan of lumping crosses in doesn't work? Or Gray can't get a direct run at their defence?

Benitez would be an idiot not to use him in some capacity if the stays. A complete fool.

Easily the most talented player I have seen in my time of supporting Everton. But his heart doesn't seem to be in it any more.
I don't think there was any evidence of that when he played last season mate. We knew he couldn't stay fit when we signed him, but we still got more minutes out of him than he had played in 4/8 years since he left Porto, which isn't bad going is it?

I agree over this summer he's clearly shown he's not really arsed but also it's clear that we told him we want him to leave too. It works both ways mate.

I think it's best that he moves on as long as we replace him with quality but time is very much against us on that.

If he ends up staying put then he simply has to be used. Doesn't mean building the entire system around him, but I'd very much like to see what James Rodriguez could do to Norwich and Watford at home with a full Goodison behind us.

I think it's safe to say James would probably rather leave than stay, but if he stays he won't be arsed - it'll be on him to be motivated to play and on Benitez to incorporate him into the squad. He isn't a 'rotten apple' or 'bad egg'. He's liked in the squad and is a brilliant player who would be extremely useful through a long season. People getting carried away because we've won three games, one of them struggling past a crap Huddersfield team.

However, the club do want him gone because we can't afford his wages.
Agree with everything, just not sure if the club wants him out. Apart from being an excellent player the lad is the fourth most followed active footballer on social media, so he has huge commersial value.

If the club really wants him out, I doubt his wage is the main problem, and we still have some players on big money, contributing close to zero.

Think some are ignoring the fact that a player can have all the talent in the world but if he doesn't want to be here and isn't willing to be 100% committed then the talent is nullified.

I don't think we are ignoring that and I would say his ambivalence comes from Benitez not trusting him. It's a two way street. We obviously want him to go and he wants to go where he is wanted, but if he's still here at the end of the window he should be used as much as we can (even if not as a starter).

The club want him out mate. It's a result of our financial issues but they want him out.

In the meantime, we've got our manager bigging up Delph, a genuine waster, and people spaffing because Iwobi has had three decent performances (and I'm happy btw, hope he keeps it up)

James and Ancelotti were the last straws to grasp for the fans wanting hollywood/school of science.

They have little grasp of reality of what players/managers get this club moving forward.

Case in point the clamour for some "young" "expansive" manager like Potter who got humbled by a "dinosaur" very few wanted.

The plan is that he does leave, and has been since the manager arrived as the world and his wife were told.

The question we are discussing is what happens if he stays, which is a distinct possibility now.

….the post-match interview with Gray at the weekend was interesting, he said the squad train with ‘structure’. For me, that’s lots to do with shape with and without the ball. It demands really hard work & sadly Rodriguez is easy to run past when we lose possession.

We can only play X1, somebody in this functioning ’structure’ has to miss out for Rodriguez to play. He might be our most gifted footballer, he might do things other players can’t do but he’s not our most effective footballer.

I always thought Everton was a short-stop on his journey. I always thought when we are ready to truly progress it will be without Rodriguez.
