The Colombian playmaker was a free transfer signing from Real Madrid in September but his weekly wages have been described, by one source, as 'Champions League winners money' with it now believed he earns over £200,000-a-week.

If the Echo are reporting it then it must be true

Marca Colombia reported the below earlier this window too:

“Milan don’t want to pay the £200,000 he is earning at the moment. They would ask James to sign a clause to control him speaking on media and platforms without the team’s authorisation.”

Or are we only believing sources that suit our agendas now?

Is that source named “ Azul “ by any chance ?

As unless there’s a name to the source and provenance, it means Jack.

You only have to look at some of the nonsense posted by a select few loons, to realise that a “ source “ could be anyone from Old Terry in the pub, to the voices in their head.

I think the truth will be in the middle of this debate somewhere. I doubt we pay anyone £200k per week, but I strongly strongly doubt James came here on a free on 80 or 90k a week. That wouldn't even put him up their with our highest earners.

He should leave if he wants to play football because we have a manager who is known for his stubborness and won't pick him.

TBF old Terry is usually spot on with his info.

What happens if he was given a huge signing on fee to counter the weekly wage??

At the end of the day there’s an agenda against him, it’s absolutely pathetic

That must have been written at lunchtime, mate.

If you think he took a paycut from 280k to 90k per week to join us then you're living in cuckoo land.

You can see the grimace on his face there when he realises the calf has gone from the exertion.

Our current manager won't use him much this season (rightly or wrongly), so it's in no one's interest for him to stay if he wants to play football.

I have major concerns about James lack of mobility and availability in this league. We certainly couldn't set up like we did on Saturday if he started because he can't take on defenders like Gray and he can't help out the full back like Townsend. And it's absolutely not a Benitez v James thing, because I'm not on either team! There's just a lot of romanticism in this thread because we have a player capable of moments of sheer brilliance. But in the round, I'm not sure he is what we need.

This is the right take. If he doesn't fit the game plan (and we know he doesn't fit Benitez's) today's is the worst outcome for all involved.

For James, his career in jeopardy. For Everton, a massive distraction all season. For Colombia it's best player off the radar. For forum visitors here, a guarantee this thread keeps going like this with speculation of just how much the guy is making to play in reserves or not at all. Ugh.

No agenda against him, but if we can bring someone younger and less injury prone in to replace him then that's the right thing to do.

If he stays then he needs to get fit. I know people get annoyed about this point but I'm not talking about his injuries. He barely ran in the friendlies he played and looked completely unfit. You need to be sharp to play in this league. If he's fit and available he's an asset and the manager would be stubborn and wrong imo to ignore him. But it's up to the player to get himself ready to play.

My instinct is that Benitez will not pick him often at all, regardless of how well James does in training etc. That's why I don't see the benefits for either side of him staying. I don't agree with not using him, but we have Benitez as manager.
