I'd put him where Richarlison is and move him to the right. If James is going to be feeding balls to the left with his left foot our best 1v1 player needs to be out there and that's Gray. I don't know what happens though if Richarlison isn't good on the right.

Rodriguez is far and away the best player we have, it's stupid and stubborn to think we can't utilise him - this is all down to a personal vendetta that the FSW has, if a manager of mine treated me the way Benitez has treated him, I'd be less than bothered about playing too.

Exactly! Specially when he really hasn't had any prior connection to the club and he hasn't gotten to experience Goodison and the fan's furor. He may have even felt used as before the Florida Cup the club was having his pics all over social media and the promoters were making sells on him being there, specially after the other teams pull out and he really was the biggest start of the tournament. Then all of the sudden he was the bad boy making 200k and needing to get rid off.

He has his issues that we all know about but the revisionism of his quality is mad

And given we're wanting to go much more direct, his actual passing ability could be a huge asset

Just horses for course mate

James likes to drop deep when switching the play but with Doucoure actually given licence to push on then suddenly that doesn't leave the massive void in advanced midfield.

Options to have and that's what's needed.

Having a forward diamond with DCL at point, Richarlison and Gray interchangeably behind and James behind them as the creator, supported by Doucs and Alan or Gbamin... well, I'd love to see it.

I think James dropping deep is the thing I'd like to see eradicated from his game the most when playing for us
