2021/22 James Rodriguez

I want us to keep him hopefully when all avenues are closed he will buckle down (as much as he ever will) and give us some of the moments only a player of his class can

Would you call Stu Holden unmotivated, for when his knee fell apart?

The problem with Rodriguez is that the injuries are real, but they are the kind of injuries an unmotivated player exaggerates. This turns Rodriguez into a Rorschach blot, where we see what we want to see or expect to see when we look at him.

Only James knows for sure. I think your story and Sassy's story are both sustainable, on the evidence. They're both great posts as a consequence.
I think his motivation is money. He's a mercenary and knows that he has a finite period of time to make as much of it as possible. Play / sit it out...makes no essential difference to him. That would be my estimate.

Pipe Sierra with some interesting speculation on the Turkish offer. Apparently, they are offering 3.5M euro (3M pound sterling) which Sierra notes would cover 50% of James' wages. So no fee and about 3M off Everton's wage bill.

Doing the math, this would project to James being on salary of 6M pound sterling a year or 150k a week. A disappointing figure considering some of the talk here.

Also interesting, it's apparently James who is currently saying no. So Everton are entertaining the idea?

Not mentioned but worth noting the Turkish window closes on Weds so we will know more about this either way soon.

150k (the poor sod) is what is always what it was more likely to be

Because the club have been briefing a ludicrous amount to try and show just how much we MUST move him on.

Got him on a free transfer. £150k a week for a player of his quality is what you'd expect.

Back FF yet or still on his jollies? Sorry don't have Insta so honest question

We're not sure mate. He's not put anything on since Saturday. Allan was still in Disneyland yesterday I think though, going off his page.

The international players will be back tomorrow and/or Thursday. I imagine they'll all be back at FF for then.

That's 4-5 days of training before the Burnley game. They were probably given 5 days off from last Friday.

Same has happened with most clubs.

Luke Ayling was out doing a pub run in Leeds on Saturday and then mouthing off in the crowd at the Josh Warrington fight. I know I'd rather James be sunning himself in Ibiza or Allan with his family or Dom being down in London than them doing something like that!

Then again, Allan and Ayling have their match fitness and place in their teams. If you had neither you'd be down at the training ground looking to force your way into contention...if you were arsed like.

RUN UP THE SAND DUNES

He's been in training for the last two weeks just like the rest. I'm sure, given he absolutely loves the gym by all accounts, he'll have managed to get a session or two in during the weekend.

Can't be true @blulouie called me a liar for claiming James was on around 140k a week

Sadly it looks like we're going to have to file this one alongside eto'o ...
Supremely talented, produced a few wonderful moments but (barring a change in mindset from player and manager) ultimately not the right fit

Well none of us know mate but given the initial briefing last year was 100k and then it shot up to 200k (and now 'north of 200k') when we wanted to get rid of him, it was probably sensible to think it was somewhere in the middle.

It could well be base salary like, with goals bonuses etc then taking it higher, but that's the same for most players

But if he's here past the lingering deadlines then he definitely should be involved shouldn't he, because he's very, very good.

Also, Eto'o was 34 when he signed for us. James is only just 30 and was one of our best performers last season. He shouldn't have been the answer to every issue though and for Ancelotti he was, that was a problem, because he can't keep the injuries off.

The only excuse he has for not being back at FF is if he's been given permission to tie a deal up elsewhere.

Stop making excuses for this player. He doesn't deserve any.

Why should he "definitely be involved" if he doesn't fit in?

That makes no sense.
