Best player we've had in years yet no bugger wanted him even when offered on a free/loan.

Something doesn't add up there :hayee:
You honestly don’t think he’s as ‘talented ‘ as we’ve seen in years ? I’m not arguing he should start, the manager is winning matches and picks the team but honestly particularly in those first few games it was a pleasure to watch him. If people didn’t enjoy that fair enough but we’re different people .

I love a grafting up and am them player but silky skill is beautiful to watch as well . That’s why you can enjoy a boxing tear up old school brawl and mayweather at this best.

Because he's on ridiculous wages and not getting any younger. We've got him now, he's under contract, lets play him

According to his fan club he isn't... but even if he is which I suspect is the case if he was such a great player that surely wouldn't bother teams no? Ronaldo is on 480k at Utd and Messi is on more at PSG.

People confuse being a talented player with being a great one. If he was such a great player then he would be playing for both midtable Everton and Colombia but he's playing for neither at present.

That speaks volumes but the Kult dont want to hear it as its all the FSW's fault.

You really don't understand football do you. He's not on Messi or Ronaldo's level, of course he isn't. That doesn't mean he's not the most talented player we've had in years, does it?

Very few clubs outside the Premier have any money at the moment. Only about 7/8 clubs in the Premier can pay his wages. It's not rocket science FB.

Anyway that's moot. He's here until at least January. Common sense alone says you find a way to utilise his undoubted talent

It's not that complicated. He's the most talented player in our squad. Play him in his best position, build around him and he'll do well.

Is it REALLY worth building around a player who manages (approx) 60% of a season?

If you think so then that's fine, but as we saw last season it all falls apart when opposition managers wake up to it or he doesn't play due to fatigue, swollen nuts or whatever else.

Whilst he's here I'm sure he'll be involved whenever the manager thinks it's appropriate. I'm also sure he'll contribute in some meaningful way when he's on the pitch.

The days of him being 'star man' are long gone at any top level club. The problem with Evertonians (myself included) is we're so desperate for even a hope of success we'll cling to anything.

I can agree that he is the biggest celebrity we have had in the club in several years, if we disregard Eto`o. But I judge players on what they do on the field and not on the player's status.

Yes, he has had some brilliant moments, but so did Leon Osman during one season. Good performance over time is what characterizes really good players. Of course, it would have been fun if JR had managed this for Everton. However, I do not cry if it does not happen. The most important thing will always be that Everton do well. The team always comes first. That's how it is in team sports.

Then we can discuss until we turn blue if the team is best without or with JR. That's perfectly fair. However, I choose to believe that Rafael and the club are professionals, and that they have a better overview of the situation than us.

You also do not have to be a rocket scientist to understand that the way Rafael wants to play football is not compatible with JR's skills. Right now, AT and DG are delivering goal points at a consistently good rate while taking the necessary sprints and running the required distance.

Ah so you've changed your statement from him being the best player we've had in years to the most talented.

Now I agree with you - talented most certainly but not the best or most important.

"Best Everton player for generations"...the world waits with bated breath for his "introduction to a packed Goodison".

That's what I heard.

You are spot on there, mate, Leon Osman was easily as good as James Rodriguez.?

Let's be honest though, comparing James Rodriguez to Floyd Mayweather is a bit of a stretch. Ignoring the fact that Mayweather hand-picked opponents for a long time but let's stick with him as the gold standard for sake of the discussion.

James has been a bit of a nomad in the past few years and has not got in any team consistently besides us really and we are not elite level sadly. As such, James has not competed at an elite level for some time and when he has been in an elite team, he has either not been picked or has not been fit.

If you are comparing Mayweather to someone, you would have to compare him to Cristiano who has been everywhere and done it. If we are comparing James to any boxer, it would probably be Adrian Broner. All the talent in the world, lots of hype but a failure to put the work in and get a consistent run.

There are a lot of quotes from people closer to the situation than us that suggest James simply isnt putting in the effort you need to be a footballer in 2021. Does he have talent? Undoubtedly, but his application of that talent seems to be the issue.

I'm sorry did you just compare JR with Osman? Come on man.

I agree we should not build a team around him, but because of his fitness reliability rather than his ability. Needs to play sparingly if we're going to have him available most games, and I think you'll see the best of him if we do.
