2021/22 James Rodriguez

No mate, if Everton are paying James Rodriguez to play for somebody else (a Qatari team, no less) when we've got a front four of Rondon, Iwobi, Gray and Townsend, then it's madness.
the alternative is he stays and we shoulder the full million a month. Now that's madness. if we aint gonna use him, and we aint, then lets' get him out the door.

He isn't on 200k. It would be better if the manager stopped refusing to pick him.
I think the figure of 200k per week is probably not far from the truth.

He is a super star in football terms and has been at elite clubs for the last seven or eight years where he would routinely earned that level of salary.

He was unlikely to take any wage cut to come to Everton , in fact I think he probably needed more to incentivise him to come.

There was no transfer fee which usually results in clubs being able to pay a higher wage.

My understanding is that are already players at the club earning between 120k and 140k per week so 200k for a player of the reputation of James would not be outlandish.

There isn't a problem with the player earning that kind of money, I would guess we sold a lot of shirts and merchandise because of him.
The problem is the club cannot at the moment afford that kind of wage without the extra money European football will attract.

If he was a key player for RB that would change matters slightly but as it is perfectly clear that James wants to leave and that the manager has no great interest in playing him then his exit is the best solution all round.

A player like James who is extremely skilful but not somebody you can build a team around was probably not the right kind of purchase for Everton in the first place. He has no resale value something that bigger clubs can afford to do but not us.

Where did '9' assists come from or are people still making stuff up?

In the English Premier League season 2020/21, James Rodríguez played 21 matches (plus 2 as a sub). He had 18 shots on target from a total of 28 shots and scored 6 goals (2.80 xG). James Rodríguez averaged 46 passes per match with a pass completion rate of 84%, and had 4 assists.

It's eight, with 4 coming from FA & League cup matches (Rotherham Utd, Wednesday and other quality sides)

This.

I've pointed it out a few times the last few days. All negatives are blamed on others, anything positive is benitez. The agenda is unreal.

It may be a tough pill to swallow but the reality is Rafael Benitez is Everton manager and he is the boss.

You may well want Everton to succeed but you can't at the same time want Benitez to fail or not be in control of decision making - the two things are mutually intertwined with one another.

You need to drop the tomahawk and come to the light otherwise every win EFC achieve this season will leave a bitter taste, every decision Benitez makes you'll not be happy and every signing the manager wants you'll likely not be willing to give a fair crack of the whip to.

You're only hurting yourself in all of this no one else and this James saga is proof of that - James doesn't give a stuffing if he stays or goes he's earning in excess of 100k a week living it up as a media icon regardless of where he plays his football.

Come to the Light and Repent.

Transfermarkt. And was all competitions. As I stated in my post.

Best of luck in Qatar, James...

And they [Istanbul Basaksehir] were bottom of the league when they approached for Rodriguez, and currently 18th, just saying.

[Edit] Just checked. They finished 12th last season. It was the season before they won it.

The headline mate, is nobody wants him on a free transfer - apart from Istanbul Basaksehir or some team in Qatar.

Sorry yeah, I forgot we've had 20-21 season already (it's merged into one).

Again, I know that, don't disagree. It's his wages. You can't look and say it's a lack of quality. That's pure revisionism. He was brilliant for us in a fair few games last season, produced quality nobody else could. I was happy enough if he'd have gone and we got a replacement in but we haven't. And right now, our squad is massively short and we're only 4 weeks into the season. We're going to run the lads we have into the ground and Everton being Everton, by the time Richarlison and DCL get fit, we'll be looking at Townsend and Gray having picked up knocks or being knackered.

No European team outside of the PL can afford his wages due to covid bar, maybe, three teams. Madrid (not happening), PSG (they don't need him) and Bayern (not happening).

Realistically every other club would want Everton to pay his wages, so him being on a free transfer would not help Everton at all, unless he decided to take a wage cut (which he has no obligation to do, just like Delph, Tosun etc don't either).

It's just all a mess. I look at how hard we've tried to shift him out, literally agreeing to pay half of his salary to Basaksehir, and Porto (when we went in for the Diaz deal), and wonder, where the hell is that impetus with genuine wasters we have in the squad who don't offer anywhere close to the quality James offers.

I'm sick of Everton giving up on things straight away. Fed up of us making a huge deal of signings or appointments and then it all having to be brushed under the carpet. This time last year we were making a song and dance of James and now all it will be is a 3-par statement on the site.

I'm not saying James is blameless. He clearly doesn't want to be here (though he wasn't arsed enough not to go Turkey on his full wage, btw). I imagine the Qatar WC is a big pull in this deal and that's all well and good. Probably means we can get a good deal in terms of us not having to pay his wage and FIFA will be all over Colombia to pick him for their squad. Good for all concerned. Other than our squad is now even shorter than it was before the injuries, and we're 4 weeks into the season.

I don't trust the people at the top of the club. There's no structure, no accountability. Just give the current manager what he wants but then scrap it all again 18 months later when they leave or are sacked. Until that changes, then I'm going to continue to give nothing to the club in terms of respect or thinking they have a clue what they're doing - because they absolutely do not.

9 assists includes cup games. 3 in the FA cup 1 in the League cup
