Presumably that was to get Ancelotti, which I think we all would accept. Without the hindsight of course that he wasn't a principled man of honour.
We did get more goals and assists out of him than all of our other midfielders combined managed in three years, mind
He was never going to play today once the rumours of the Porto thing surfaced. Given his injury record, if we're wanting to include him in the deal, then we aren't going to risk him.
If he's still here after Tuesday (I doubt it), then I'm sure he'll be used. He's been back training this week.
Why would he if we're trying to include him in the Diaz deal?
As much as I like James, he can get injured easily to say the least. Wouldn't have been smart.

Brilliant player, probably too much quality to be at club at our level.. but zero backbone as a professional footballer. Its no coincidence that he missed so many games for us last season with trivial injuries looking back at his career. How many games did he miss after Virgil injured his ball last season? We used it against VVD in the pickford argument but if we're being honest he hardly touched James.

Given the state of football finance, especially on the Continent, I can’t see anyone taking James given his wages and track record unless Everton pay a proportion of wages on a loan deal. Take the hit financially or integrate back into the squad that’s how I see it

Richarlison's antics aside, that was a committed team effort one through eleven and the midfielders and wingers all played great two-way football. It would have been a weaker side with James just gliding around. Even if he threaded a few silky passes for a goal or big chance here or there.
As insane as it sounded, if we're going to play like this week in and week out I think I agree with RB that he doesn't fit.
