….fingers crossed.

Reports this morning that Chelsea will concentrate on re-building their defence. I wonder what they’ll decide over Levi Colwill who has been on loan at Huddersfield. No idea if we’re interested but he looks very promising if we want potential as well as proven.

Watching the final to have a check on both Cowil and Johnson tbh.

Been links about Cowil but just look like the obvious speculation really as all the young Chelsea lads will be an easy link to us really given Lampards ties to the club.

I expect Chelsea will invest hugely this Summer, the Americans are replacing a hugeky popular figure with the fans so will want to get them on side early.

That will bode well for any interest we have as the likes of Gallacher, Cowil and Gilmour will be wanting first team football (for Gallacher and possibly Gilmour it could be the difference with it being the world cup soon)

Right now there level is close mate, ones improving the others peaked already.

Different kinds of player - Mykolenko is faster, better engine, much better defensively, Digne is better technically and much better deliverer of a ball.

If you want to be a good team in modern football you really need attacking fullbacks, or at least one.

Digne contributes a significant number of assists whenever he plays, aside from under Benitez who didn’t want fullbacks getting forward.

Mykolenko will never play for a top team imo, he’s a good lad and I hope he continues to improve but he’s not a great fullback.

In terms of crossing no. But let's get it right, Digne was an appalling defender. Yellow carded every game

13 yellows in 100 league games. Ruben Dias has 9 yellows in 61 games.

Terrible metric to measure defensive ability, but even if it wasn’t the statement is untrue.

There’s a reason so many people outside of the Everton fanbase couldn’t believe we sold Digne. The majority if not all of the top flight teams would pick Digne over Mykolenko if given the choice.

I'm in the minority of one who doesnt think this is the case and feel folk are going to be disappointed should this move materialise.
Make that two. Can’t believe how much people are overrating Tarkowski. Burnley the easiest team to play in as a defender, team sits in own half, midfielders stay very compact and give loads of protection, it’s all about clearing the ball. Stick Tarkowski in our team last season, he’d have been completely exposed regardless of how much heart he has. Averageness.

If Lampard is interested I'd image it's to address the number of goals we concede to set pieces. Where we the top in that Prem League?

Mykolenko wouldn't get on a top half bench. There's no way we should go into a season with him as a first team player.

Digne is absolutely a different level.

That fat twot got rid of 2 of our most beloved best players but we still stayed up.

The hero of the season should be the guy who left the bedsheets outside his neighbours house.

Defo need to improve there. The lack of Arial ability went right through the whole team - the number of times we lined up and only had Keane in the team who could actually attack and head the ball was unbelievable, no wonder we conceded so many set pieces. Getting another centre back who can head is required but we’ll get better if DCL, for example, is in the team regularly. That’s one of the things about playing either Godfrey or Holgate at centre back, they’re both poor in the air so it leaves the other centre back to do it all and if the rest of the team are midgets as well, all of a sudden there is nobody to defend the balls into the box.

Tarkowsi will help head the ball away but that’s about it.

Thing is our possession stats last season were 36 out of 38 games were inferior. So it all depends on how or if we change that. I cant see it unless the midfield have a complete overhaul. So im sort of torn now on the possible signing of him for that reason. If we're sitting deep giving away possession again then he might be an option. But we cant carry on playing that way with any hope of progressing. But its a double edged sword because if it takes more than a season to repair the midfield you're once again bringing in a 30yr old on big money for what, 4 years?
Ideally a shorter contract might be the best option. If he gets a better offer from another club to tie him up for 4 years then drop it and move on.

Our best business over the last 20 years has been when we didn't have a lot to.spend and actually spent time searching, such as lower league players, those off the radar like Jags and Lescott

…it’s a good point but that might also be lots to do with the person identifying targets.

We know our transfer process is a mess, we can only guess who brings players in as it can be anyone of 3 individuals.

….the possession stats are bound to be skewed by the approach Benitez took. He set teams up and sent players out to consolidate, regardless of the opposition. We surrendered possession, invariably conceded first & then started to play.

That was all down to moyes. Looking back now and the tag he had as dithering dave makes that now look very stupid. Moyes did due diligence. Not just ability but character. One of the first things he did at west ham was ship out those he thought were not buying into the team.
We went from that to Ronald Koeman. Who in my opinion started this rot.
I dont mind a manager with moyes approach at all.
