Pretty much confirmed my fears. Can't play if you're asking him to defend higher up than 8 yards from goal.
Not many centre backs can defend higher up if they have no protection from midfield in front of them. Having played centre back I felt sorry for them last night, as I did much of last season, absolute shambles in front of them. Easy to blame the defence, the midfield lack of shape was a disgrace, back to the bad old days of last season. Easiest game the Brighton midfield will have all season.

Him and Coady are too slow which means we defend far too deep for the majority of games
That’s why you play a three with Godfrey’s pace to cover behind. This pushes the whole team further up. Surely a competent manager can see this..

Shocker of a performance. First one this season I think though, has been excellent the rest of the time, and one of the few positives.

That won't stop some of our fans rewriting history though and claiming hes a bad signing.
He hasn't been a bad signing, but he hasn't been the massive upgrade that people claimed he was going to be either. He's been like a slightly steadier Keane/a less injury prone Mina. Same goes for Coady, they're individually decent centre halves and fine signings, but they're very similar and they haven't had the transformative impact on attitude and leadership that people claimed they would.
