2024/25 James Tarkowski

…no idea how he saw it from where he was but he was one of the first in the referee’s ear about the penalty. Proper leader, puts everything on the line and then has that angelic grin.

Happy in his own skin, he’ll appreciate what he has because of where he’s come from and has formed a terrific partnership with Branthwaite.
Noticed him telling anyone who came near them (him and the ref) ‘it’s a penalty’ before the VAR check was even confirmed.

On the other hand Jags was a much better player in general, but him being a captain did kinda confuse me.
Club captains aren't chosen for their willingness to get involved in handbags at the end of a match. 22 grown men puffing their chests out safe in the knowledge that they'll get pulled away before anything even approaching a fight actually breaks out.

They're a go between the players and the management and a good captain does a lot of stuff off the field that isn't just about football. That may well have been a big part of Jagielka's perceived value as a captain to those at the club and involved in the day to day. Impossible to say really.

This, it does make me laugh giving it large knowing they arent going to get tagged on the chin or blindsided (now that Dunc is long retired)

LMAOO Tarky just ragging him away. Like a Doberman putting a Chihuahua in its place.

Was Minteh seriously trying (belatedly) to chase after Tarky after this? Tarky stood alone amongst 3-4 Brighton players, saying try it little man..

I was really unwell with a chest infection yesterday so didn't even know we'd won till someone messaged me.
Sod Brighton, with their wandering minstrel haircuts.

Yes. Both CBs fantastic. Branthwaites best game since he came back in. Easily mopped up their 55 minutes of hopeful but pointless crosses.

Especially love the way Tarky runs into any melee, has his initial shove to let them know he’s there, and then always smiles. Saying come on lad, you know you are going to walk away.

Brilliant signing. Often fantastic and consistently above average. Probably had half a dozen poor games for us, mainly during periods he should have been on the treatment table. Not a modern centre back, but still a fantastic centre back.

Also, whatever JB goes on to achieve, he wouldn’t have achieved half of it if he’d had to learn he’s trade alongside Keano. Huge credit to Tarks.
Agree completely!

Regarding on pitch stuff I think Jags was a good leader in that he always demonstrated the commitment to put his body on the line that you would want the rest of the team to show and for his organization.

However he preferred to be a peace maker for on field disputes rather than Tarks more, err, “face forward” approach!

The jagielka captaincy argument is one that always makes me laugh, I reckon over his career about 10 different managers made him captain, but a few das on here who’ve never met him or played above pub level reckon he was crap at it.
