Mirallas isnt close to being World Class.

Hes a great player with moments of utter brilliance.

Im pretty sure his agent has put the word out, we will struggle to retain any of our good players while we are in this current slump.
Apart from Mirallas they're all on long contracts. We won't be forced to sell any however we might if it makes good business.

At the minute I am terrified that we may go for Deulofeu. The lad is very quick which will stretch teams but with most of our opposition sitting in and countering us he will just be another luxury player that runs into a brick wall and doesn't mark or track back. We need 1 or 2 more players like McCarthy with great engines to harass and give us platform for our quality forward line to play.
He can beat a man on the outside which is something we've really lacked which can be used to open up teams who mark the width of the 18 yard box.

Plus his speed and directness will help our counter attack so teams don't have a chance to get back. He's young definitely but he is what we need although I'm beginning to think we might need a proper No10 too.

O, for sure MG I can't argue with that, it's when we don't have the ball that we look like a pub team at the moment.
That's because Barry is too slow to make space for himself and as a result never has the time to get his head up to find a pass over the top. This results in teams being able press us high. Midfielders and attackers don't want to receive the ball if the defender is on top of them.

How much for Kone mate?

Jokes aside I do think a paltry million for Gibson is not stretching it. If he regains fitness by the summer you could easily sell him for that to a struggling team, he's not old (whatever his hairline might say) and he does have quality. A showboating MLS team would snap up Howard at 2-3m too.

The problem I have with this is if we were to buy a creative centre mid what happens to Barkley?

I think the greater issue is the wide areas. If we get at least one decent wide player then that takes the pressure off the full backs and the central midfielders and Barkley can hopefully begin to recover his form and ability with greater freedom.
We move him back so he plays mostly alongside Besic or McCarthy depending on the game or sometimes with both and we don't use a proper No10 in those games - i.e. the ones we want to play on the counter attack.

I hope he improves but right now I'm not seeing enough to make me believe that he's a No10 so he needs to get better at tackling.

This is what I think could be realistic over the course of January and next summer (moreso next summer...) - just from hunches (Mirallas) and what it seems like the team needs (everything else).

Mirallas out - £20m
Gibson out - £1m
Howard out - £3m to MLS
TV Money - £30m

Deulofeu - £10m
Solid defensive CB, mid-late 20s (Reid or similar) - £10m
Pienaar type replacement, good vision, works with space, good passer - £10m (or perhaps Ayew on a free)
Mid-late 20s top-class goalkeeper - £10m
Lukaku installment - £8m*
Loss in prize money for finishing lower in the league - £4m*

Remaining £12m to be spent on a squad player or two to make up for loss of Gibson, Distin etc., or renewed contracts.

* denotes number pulled even further out of my arse than the others.
Ideally McGeady, Atsu, Oviedo (to raise money), Gibson, Barry, Eto'o, Distin, Pienaar and Howard out.

No10, LW, CB and GK in.

Which basically means I think we need a pretty major rebuild. This window we need a LW above ALL else.

One of my favourites at the moment as he has quality (his goal yesterday). But, he does seem to suffer with injuries and I agree that if he doesn't extend his contract soon then we have little option really.
He's been one of my favourites since he joined. The only player to consistently rise to the big games. That "tackle" on Suarez is enough to secure him legendary status.
