I too would be disappointed if he goes in Jan. Who knows?

I thought it was odd when we were linked to that right back from Spain in September. It may have been brewing for a while. That paticular link may have been papers pushing crap. (Again)
Probably Montoya's agent as the player is desparate to leave however be will likely be sold and Barca want approx 20m for him plus Juve and Liverpool are interested with Juve being favorites.

Although he's meant to be really good. No one knows why he's been frozen out.

As each game goes by the need for a goalkeeper will increase. Robles instils no confidence in the supporters let alone the defence.

Realistically we're not going to spend millions on a goalkeeper in January - mainly because Martinez probably still sees Howard as sufficient - but as an outside punt I'd like to see us try someone like Alex McCarthy from QPR, looked very good when I saw him play against us for Reading.

Not played much for them over the past years, only 13 and 15 league games in each of the past two seasons, not sure how they could ask 20mil for a right back either?

.....prices tend to inflate in January, it's difficult to see any major ins or outs in this window.
For players with years left to run on their contracts, yes. But those coming into their last six months or so, that's a different matter.

There's a few bodies out there who are on frees in the summer and therefore could be viable targets for a lowball bid now. Sadly there will be plenty of other teams looking along these lines too, but we could do worse than pick up the following:

RB: Sam Byram (Leeds)
CB: Winston Reid (WHU) or Fabian Schar (Basel) - I don't think we've a chance with Vlaar, I suspect he's nailed on for Man Utd and Van Gaal will send Villa one of his rejects as part of the deal.
CM: Fabian Delph (Villa)

Sure, we still need a winger / no.10 type (possibly two) but shoring up at the back and bringing in some cover at CM, whilst also weakening other prem teams in the process, wouldn't hurt us at all. I think the winger / no.10 will more likely be loans and I would be made up if one of them was Deulofeu, with an option to buy.

Another point that interests me is the situation in Ukraine - I imagine there are probably a few players in that league who would be keen for a move. Andriy Yarmolenko of Dynamo Kiev looks interesting on paper: 25 years old, left-footed right winger with 18 months left on his contract, regular scorer in the Europa League since 2010, 40 international caps but I've never actually seen him play - anyone got any thoughts on him?Would he be an alternative to this Konoplyanka fellow that people have mentioned?

Point of note - Hard to buy players in Jan who will help in the Europa League if they are already cup tied, hard to convince players to join who have ambitions of European football if we're on course to finish mid table this season.

Martinez will have to do some convincing and big motivation if we are to get quality CB, winger and GK in Jan.
