Begovic or Marshall are a MUST in my opinion for this transfer window - we need a top class goalkeeper urgently and for the long term.
On top of that we need a winger and a centre half - whether they'll come in this window I doubt, but we should try. Maybe Nastastic and Perisic!?

After Martinez's comments about not changing our formation or the way we play - surely he must say we are short in 4-2-3-1 formation. You can't play a system that relys on service from wingers as much as we do, with one decent winger - may as well start with 10 men.
We need to sign a winger if Martinez wants to play 4-2-3-1.
Otherwise, play the midfield diamond with Kev and Rom up top and get Baines/Garbutt and Coleman to get forward...

Criminal that some clubs below us (historically) in the league have better keepers on their bench than our first choice. I would go for McCarthy but the problem is some keepers at relegation teams look brilliant making save after save and are not blamed for the three they let in every game. It is completely different (normally) playing for Everton where we might only let a few chances on our goal each match and you have to be ready. This is where Howard is so poor. In the games where he is busy, like for the US, he looks really good and gets into the game. He would look world class for a bottom of the table team. I have seen too many games to count though for us where all Howard has done is pick the ball out of the net once or twice but not actually made any saves from the two shots he's faced all game. Difficult to tell with keepers whether they're just good shot stoppers or have the temperament to be a top keeper.
....I seem to recall Howard signing a new contract not so long ago so presume RM has no plans to replace him. I reckon he'll stick with Robles throughout January and only bring somebody in if he picks up an injury also.

In fairness most of us were saying it was his best season in years for us. So sloppy this season, and seems to lack concentration.

I agree that this is what I think Roberto will do. I don't agree however that it is the right approach. That said, I have no idea how much or how little money is available for transfers to get the best goalie possible and if the answer is bugger all, then our hands are tied in doing anything meaningful for the longer term.
We know that young Griffiths is training with the first team and if he looks like a rising star then Roberto might decide to stick with what he has.
