Bring back Timmy Cahill for team spirit. He was never lacking effort and he genuinely loves the club. Sure we could get him for next to nothing.

I don't understand the Shelvey link. Barkley is tailor made to play exactly the sort of role Shelvey would presumably be playing, box to box attacking midfielder who can tackle pass and score. Martinez should be developing Barkley in that deeper role rather than wasting money on inferior players. Currently however Martinez seems to have no idea who to play in midfield. One week its Baines the next its Barkley or Besic all of course paired with the hapless Barry

If we sold McCarthy I would invest the money in a keeper and wide players plus a centreback if there's any left. There's enough good centre mids with Barkley Besic Osman and Gibson. Ledson Pienaar Baines and of course the hopeless Barry can also play there if required. Apart from a bit of mad dog character I dont see what Shelvey would bring to that blend that isn't already there. Use it to get a really good keeper a good winger to pair with Mirallas and maybe another centreback.

......for clarity, I Hear that Donachie (Head of medicine) resigned but his initial resignation was refused so he resigned for a 2nd time and this time it was accepted. Further indication that all is not right behind the scenes.

Spot on. Shelvey is a poor choice for any club with European ambitions.

Osman and Piennar can't tackle, so don't work as CMs. Gibson is never fit so doesn't work as a footballer. Ledson could quite easily be the only one of those four still employed by the club as a player come next September.

The only answer that it could be would be price which at 5m could make sense but I also agree with everything you've said.

I've heard Donachie's assesment was that he would resign 8 weeks ago but it was inaccurate and it actually took much longer.

Maybe he could see us playing a 4-3-3 with Barkley and Shelvey ahead of Besic.

Shelvey has linked well with Bony, better than Ross and Rom.

The Daily Mail claim that Spurs are 'monitoring' the situation of James McCarthy despite the 24 year-old's recent hamstring problems and Roberto Martinez's insistence that his £13m acquisition will be at Goodison "for a long, long time."

However, the paper stirs the suggestion that the injured player has grown frustrated following the lack of talks over a revised contract, even though his current agreement runs for another 3½ years.

Arsenal have also been linked with a £20m move for McCarthy but the Mail's reports say they are wary that Everton will refuse all offers and don't want to become engaged in a saga hence looking at other targets. In any case, Spurs observers doubt Daniel Levy will pay that much for the player.

McCarthy's position could be a huge litmus test of the player's faith in Martinez and his Everton project that is coming under so much scrutiny on the back of four straight defeats and simmering rumours of player unrest. But McCarthy followed Martinez to Goodison from Wigan and the loss of such a key player, who likely has a strong relationship with the Catalan, would set alarm bells ringing very loudly at Goodison Park.
