Just thinking about this.. would WOULDN'T we try for Reid from West Ham now for a cut price deal? They are a club in need of the money... they have a new stadium to finance and would be very sour to see him leave for nothing in the summer. Unless he's got an offer from a massive club, which I doubt, he'd surely be interested in joining us...

He'd go for less than 5m, and could be our centre back alongside Stones for the forseeable future. Martinez would be mad not to go for him if he's available for anywhere near that price.

If we got a centre back and a decent goalkeeper this window I'd be confident of us mounting a European push in the second half of the season.
I agree with you mate. Fair enough others might be in for him, but we should at least be trying. We can offer him EL games this season and he's got every chance of becoming first choice for us if not straight away then certainly by this time next year.

Sure if Arsenal come in hard for him we have a problem, but will they? Every Arsenal fan I know honestly believes Koscielny is the best CB to ever play the game, and they've got Chambers as the new expensive young signing to fit into CB (yes, I know.... but that's where they keep playing him) along with Mertesacker. Chelsea, City and Liverpool don't appear to have vacancies in central defence and United are looking for bigger names, like Hummels, to satisfy their fanbase. Are Spurs looking?

I think we have a chance. Maybe a slim one, but a chance.

He looks decent from that but the problem with those videos is they never show a player's downsides. He could have awful decision making skills for all we know. I bet if you watched a youtube skills video of Nani and you didn't know him you'd think he was one of the best in the world.

At 21 though he does look like he's fairly experienced and a good shot-stopper.

Id love to see him progress into a decent keeper but well away from here for a few years.

Agreed... I really don't think he will get the time or patience to develop in the first team here.

People forget just how poor De Gea was at united even with a functioning defence ahead of him, but he was given time and a long run in the team to develop.

Disclaimer: I don't think Joel will develop into a keeper as good as De Gea

He makes far less mistakes than Howard, would be a much better option than him.

From that lot it has to be karius based on other posters praise of him.

The others dont hit the spot.

might actually be something in the romero shouts.

Think it'll be between this group : Karius, Marshall, Romero, and Nicholls from wigan.

then again might surprise everyone and get someone we haven't been linked with at all.

I've been watching Mainz as I really liked their football under Tuchel when they had Holtby, Szalai, Schurrle etc. and I'd love Karius here. He does everything you expect your keeper to do, like come for crosses and save the shots that should be saved, he'd be an absolute steal for anything around 5 million, he's not as erratic as Howard and would definitely be one for the future but I think he'd do a really good job in our first team already, as the videos posted show he can make the big saves when you really need him but he is also very commanding of the area and good on 1 on 1 situations, unlike Howard.
