I wouldnt say Box - Box mate, McCarthy for me is one of the best around, i do think we need someone who can play in the hole and drop deep to make a 5 when we dont have possesion and invaribly cover for the 15 odd games a season Barkley doesn't play, someone who can assist and score - could do worse then getting Shaun Maloney for a nominal fee as cover/fatiuqe relief.

Shout out for Van Djik at Celtic, will be a good PL centre half.

I think we're scoring goals though aren't we? Is there a pressing need for a player who specialises playing in the hole?

We need someone with positional discipline ahead of the two holding CMs. Someone who can get at the opposition playing out from the back and is able to carry/distribute the ball when they get hold of it.

Agree on the level of the Dutch league, disagree that you can't spot if certain players won't make it here. Tadic and Bony were both special talents over here. Not trying to pad myself on the back, but I've been singing their praises long before they moved to England. On the other hand there are players like van Wolfswinkel, De Jong and Castaignos of whom I'm fairly sure they wouldn't cut it in the PL.
I wasn't suggesting that all Dutch league players are poor, or people aren't able to identify talent. Apologies if that's how it may have came across.

My point is that Premiership clubs have a pretty sizeable record for misjudging players from the Dutch League. It adds an aura of doubt.

Look at Suarez: some people thought he was a risk and top clubs actually turned him down, but look how good he became.

However, as you say also look at van Wolfswinkel. He came with huge hopes and a top record, but he was atrocious. Although it was Norwich!

For PL clubs I think there is a genuine concern over delving into that specific market, which must boil down to poor assessment of what is there.

You'd hope we have scouts in Dutch league advising the club, or at least contacts whom we can seek advice, but it has kept happening.

So if we've got £12 to spend I'm sure they still ask themselves, "Is this worth the risk?" Unfortunately, we don't have enough money to risk it.

No worries mate, I actually agreed with a lot you said. Just in the case of players like Bony and Tadic, I believe you could see they were destined to play at a higher level than the Dutch league. A lot of players from here are overrated though and not up to PL standards, I'll give you that.

Podolski can be bought for 5 million euros in January. What do you guys think? He plays both LW and second striker, although I reckon he's better as a second striker. 5 million euros would be a good price, although it would be hard to reach an agreement on his wages, which are pretty high, some sources quote 75k, others 107k.

Having said that, I don't think we'll buy anybody in January, maybe a loan if there's a chance to get someone, but I don't expect permanent transfers.

£5m is a non-brainer, totally underated player. but i only like him as a striker. only if we went two up top would it be worthwhile, but we won't do that.
