neither is spending £28m on a striker haha

True, although I genuinely felt throughout the summer that we would sign Lukaku.

Spending big in January would be more of a shock for me. I thought if anything Martinez would rather do the same as last year - pick up a cheapie or two and save his cash for the summer.

so did i. but then again, i have no idea how much we paid for lukaku up front, whether he saved a bit of budget etc. we definitely need something. the defence is a much bigger issue for me, but then again, like you say, maybe there will be better option in the summer there and not regarding wingers.

can't moan too much about martinez though, he strengthened in the summer in the positions we identified that needed strengthening and now the rumours seem to state he's looking at the right positions again. i'd grown tired of moyes completely ignoring our desperate need for a central midfield and instead sticking with neville and osman

Gonna have nightmares about that tonight now you've reminded me, I've only just gotten over that ffs. We've gone from having one of the worst central midfields in the league to one of the best in the space of a couple of years. Credit to Martinez for that - the signing of McCarthy, the signing of Besic, the development of Barkley and even last year, the signing of Barry, even if he isn't cutting it this year.

I'd say he's done more right in the transfer market than wrong so far.

Difference is that there's such a contrast between last years first half to the season to this one, I think if Martinez has any money to work with and can get the right player then he should do it now. It could be the kickstart we need to have an exciting new player.

yep, the point i was making. let's not forget we've gone from jelavic, anichebe and vellios up front to lukaku, eto'o and kone. moyes just kept failing to address these two areas of vast importance, we had some great strikers a few years back, but year after year we seemed to get weaker and weaker in that department without actually making any money.

He signed Alcaraz though mate so he's clearly turning us into Wigan lol

Thankfully Martinez has made us into a far more attractive proposition for players, despite our current league position and poor form. Quality players actually want to play for us!

The Daily Star (I know) are reporting that we have made an enquiry for Marshall and have an interest in Karius and Romero which we know about but also mention Feyenord's keeper Erwin Mulder, don't know much about him but Transfermarkt.com says he's 25, 6'4 and out of contract this summer, might be an option we could do with Er win at the mo(sorry)

i was told just discussing it but it's been going on for 3 days (including today) so they must think a deal can be done.

Just hope everyone understands in transfers talks can happen for up to two weeks and then one thing can change and it can all be cancelled.

but talks seemed to sound positive.

13.25 million pound bargain.
