Those 3 players where good decisions however I still think they where no-brainers but I take the point that he also had to convince them to join. Besic wasn't a punt in my eyes and I said it before he joined that he would be a big success.I think you're being a bit harsh here.
It might not take transfer nous to realise someone like Lukaku is a great prospect, everyone could see that when he was West Brom, but it takes real management skill to put the case forward to convince a player like that to join our club. It makes me believe Martinez has the skill to convince top players to join us, and that's an exciting prospect. I don't believe many managers can do that.
Also, with transfer funds limited, it's not as easy as 'raiding la liga'. La liga doesn't necessarily have players who will adapt well to the premier league, they may be technical but prem is a tough physical league. Martinez has ensured the players he has signed will perform in this league.
It's also worth bearing in mind that Martinez saved up for Rom rather than buying several other players. He wanted the big transfer. It's debatable as to whether this was wise given the inbalance in the squad, but on the whole it gives us a top class centre forward, guaranteed goals and an investment, I think it was a good decision.
He has invested in youthful players who I think will be indispensable (they already are!), Rom, Mccarthy, Besic. All three make a big difference to our starting 11. I don't buy that besic was an obvious signing, he was a punt and I think he shows Martinez has an eye for a great player. I would add that Robles could turn out to be a good signing, or at least better than we had initially hoped!
I don't expect perfection in the transfer market with limited funds and such high competition. I think Martinez has done a sound job to date, I hope he builds on it.
Quite untrue lad.... 4 weeks wages and we receive 1 million from Sampdoria, they will have a similar sign on fee
Eto'o and his agents have done well out of the deal, just a snippet too, they have agreed for him to live over 150 kms away from the club. Not in the know be any means, but have a few school mates who now live and work over in Italy.
Monitoring Luongo from Swindon ?.....random info from a mate whose uncle is a physio for Australian national team
Did that with Anzhi, lived literally the other side of Russia.Italian mate says he is supposedly driving a hard bargain with them wanting to live about 150km away. No ITK credentials, just putting it out there.
Well he is Samuel et'oo after all! He lives where he wants he lives where he wants, he's Sammy Et'oo, he lives where he wants!!!Did that with Anzhi, lived literally the other side of Russia.
Just had a thought.
We've all been saying if we sell Eto'o we need to bring in a striker to replace him but...he hasn't played up front once has he?
Now, that could be why we're getting rid, because he turned out to be better suited to the #10 role and because Martinez likes to have 2 strikers, or we could replace him with an attacking mid. I dunno.

How many transfers literally come from nowhere. I know the vast majority of rumours turn out rubbish but most actual transfers we do hear about long before excluding the odd loan or deadline day panic buy and even those we hear about a few days before.I reckon we won't replace him in any sort of way.
Heard we're looking at a welsh international
1800km, that's like Everton players living and training in Vienna. All of the Anzhi squad and coaching staff lived and trained in Moscow mate. Then flew down for home games.
So this rumour of a player coming in ... Is it serious ? They do like to unvail a player on a Monday night before a game ?Im working nights this weekend save me scanning all the papers in the morning
