Do forgive if this sounds @rse-ish...as mentioned previous; I have ex colleagues, still in the paper/media footy biz, who thus far have offered little in the way of EVERTON inf this window (primarily as they're affiliated mainly to teams 'darn sarffff') aside from the almost verbatim manner in which the MIRALLAS 'ting would be dealt & brushed on return. Also the suggestion being, it appears, that the entire trip was a bit of a 'rush job' as it was felt if this squad/staff didn't have a BIG get together soon then certain relationships would be beyond salvage (note the distinct 'lack' of coverage from trip)...

SO, this morn, quite cryptically, I am informed we are 'close' with one and 'not too far away' with another TX.

But, as with all things journo, may well be ball-cocks. If I hear more, you will...
What does TX mean? Transfer? Or am I being incredibly stupid?

Seems to me there's quite a few posters who would like us to spend £5M-£10M on any player to 'Boost morale' or 'improve the mood a bit', surely this is just ridiculous.
We signed Eto'o in the summer for not much better reasons and look what happened.

We need to sign players that are good enough, that will fit into our system and not just for the sake of it. If this means we try and end up signing nobody then so be it.

He's said several times he doesn't want to play in the MLS. He signed a four year contract and has been a complete professional for his entire career. What fray? It's not as if this is the first time he's played for Everton when we've had a bad season. Is the hatred for our manager so bad that people are now moving on to our players as well?

I'm not part of that mate. But I dont buy Howard's injury lay off. If he goes this window then it'll confirm my suspicions. If you read his biography you can see how lacklustre he is to be part of the post Moyes Everton.

"For me, I think the MLS ship has sailed," Howard told SB Nation, echoing comments he made back in April. "That's what it looks like anyway. I signed a new four-year contract with Everton. If you cut me open, I bleed blue and I want to finish my career there. I can't foresee myself coming back. I think there was probably a chance before I signed the contract, but not anymore."

Ok, fair enough. I haven't read his book, but he has said publicly, at least in the past, that he isn't interested in playing in the MLS. He wants to retire from Everton and get into punditry. I actually do think he'll end up in the MLS eventually, but not because he's pressing for a move. I also believe he's way too much of a professional to do something like fake an injury.

This is some interesting statistics.

Everton fans would be right to point out that their side had won just 17 per cent of their 2014/15 games without the returning Osman in the starting line up.

However, they’ve won an even-more shocking seven per cent of their fixtures without James McCarthy in the XI – in short their understudies are not yet good enough.

As Martinez noted, injury has limited Pienaar to three league starts this term, yet he’s still provided more assists than all his teammates bar left-wing kindred spirit Leighton Baines.

Aiden McGeady, Ross Barkley and Kevin Mirallas have only set up one more between them despite a combined 2,599 more minutes of top-flight football.

I agree. It a bit of damned if you do, damned if you don't. Nobody comes in - "Martinez Out!" N'Zogbia, Cleverly, etc. Comes in - "Martinez Out!" I do think we need players, but what we don't need are panic buys to placate a bunch of malcontents.

I'm reading qoutes from Martinez that we don't need a winger (or any outfield player for that matter)! Because he's saying we'll have Atsu back to supplement Mirallas (if fit) and McGeady. Atsu??? Plus he's saying Barkley and Naismith can play in those positions. Stop it now!!

Howard would be an idiot if he didn't want to cash in on some of his fame over their after the World Cup before it disappear.
That said, I don't think he trying to engineer a move away, just that the MLS is probably at it's most attractive for him right now if Everton decided it was time to move him on and replace him

It will certainly answer some questions.

And cause more fume than we've seen in weeks.

Well since the last line up.

Interesting quote from the BBC about Moyes's transfer dealing.

It's looking more and more likely that this window won't see any big dealings - but we desperately need a defensive central to cover Distin. A winger who can add spark (unlike Atsu) and a striker as the only people we have now are Lukaku & Kone (unless Martinez uses the youth team).
2 strikers is enough. Stones and Jags are our two starters so we don't need cover for Distin. We need to spend on the 1st team so a winger is what is needed.
