January Transfer Thread 2017

Without going into too much depth it would be a smart signing too and display a clear understanding of where we fit in football.

As has been stated in the youth threads City spend significant money on youth prospects. They can develop them to 18/19 very well but presently there is no pathway. That is what comes with the expectations they have.

We differ. We do develop players well, in many ways comparably to City if not as well. However we are a great finishing school. This is what Davies and to a lesser degree Holgate, Calvert Lewin & Lookman show. Before them Barkley, Stones and Lukaku. If you are a talented 19 year old come to Everton and you will get a chance to kick on.

That's why Davies et al emergence is critical beyond just their performances. It will further
Enhance our reputation.

With that in mind targeting City (and Chelsea) players stuck in the jam of their conveyor belt makes sense.

On the player himself, I saw him last season and was very impressed. Looks a future England player to me. City will be gutted.

Yes testing and playing youth is a great way to spot future stars - and we are at that stage as a team. But eventually i would hope we are like Chelsea, Man C, a big team that can buy and play proven, world class players without the need to play youth who may or may not turn out to be world class.

It may be that this lad is the replacement for Jagielka.
He will play with the under 23s as he settles into the club, but may play for the first team before the end of the season and be ready to challenge for next August.

The prospects of signing some of this young talent is exciting, but we still need a RM/RW that can play and of all the players we've been linked to, Bailey (gone), Gilson (big release clause), Ravet (not ready for EPL), Depay (gone), gotta say, Cafu seems underwhelming.

If we carry on playing 3 at the back he would pretty much be first choice replacement for Holgate, Mori or Williams if Jags goes.
Although if Williams got injured i would question how organised we would be with Holgate, New lad and Mori as a back 3

I think that we will be alternating between a back four and a back five depending on the opposition.
I think it probably means that Browning will be moving on .

I wouldn't pay to much attention to this, and the talk of Hirst from Sheff Wed either.

1) Its the echo
2) Very rarely when we are linked to 16-20 year olds we get them
3) The city lad will be using this to push contract talks with city

In the past yes you are right.
However, policy has changed pick young talent with view to fast track from Unsy to Koeman, it is a clear no risk policy that will save millions on expensive high wage club to club transfers

The City kid was mentioned in the Telegraph on Saturday going so far as to say he was "Everton bound" in the summer.
So maybe something in this after all.
