January Transfer Thread 2017

Really why?

For me there's a massive risk with him.

He's not exactly hit it off in the Prem has he? I thought, for some reason, that he'd be ace at United and he really hasn't been. But there is something there. That's obvious. Hopefully Koeman knows him well and can sort his head out.

But I can't see how anyone can be certain he's going to be good (or bad) after the last 2 years.

I've been considering posting a thread about my reasons, because I think it ties in with something more bigger and more fundamentally flawed about our transfer policy in the last couple of years. In short, we seem to be more attracted to talent than the actual person who has it nowadays. We're losing all our character and backbone to age and signing flashy but spineless invertebrates in their place

Not sure if we actually have had much character and backbone to lose really mate, most of the odler players we have lost recently or who areon the verge of being replaced seemed to be happy with a top 10 finish and not rocking the boat

Was reading some things on him the other day (written by a United fan) saying how he actually started very well and linked up with shaw to good effect, then his form went to crap when shaw got injured mate. Dunno how true that was but interesting to hear it

His character has been questioned too hasn't it? Like apparently he's a bit of a nobhead. But maybe a change of scenery will help.

When has it ever helped? There would be a short-term surge of productivity followed by a slow regression into anonymity, ending up on the bench where he doesn't have to prove himself. Fans will then wonder about his exclusion, pointing to 5 or 6 games where he played well, ignoring the 15 games where he was gash. He'll become our ethereal hope, despite doing very little in cameos, with people insisting that all he needs is a "run in the team" or an "arm around the shoulder".

We know this story. Deulofeu and Mirallas are on our team, we could write a book on this phenomenon. I really don't want to go through it all again.

That's a fair point! and the signing of Gana (A mere 7m) sort of justifies what your saying, a down to earth guy with a heart and backbone, who seems to realize what he has and appreciates it. Even his interviews are great he just wants to give everything he has, every game.
Not every player with a high price tag/perfect hairstyle and flashy footy boots will succeed, they will certainly be talented (hence the price tag) but if the don't have the heart for it they will fail.

Back on topic, from what I have seen of Depay he is far better than what we have, but then is his desire suspect that's why he is not getting a sniff at UTD! Maybe, I don't know..

Likes flashy cars and clothes and rap music etc. So typical young footy player these days

The rest seems to come from one scout absolutely slating his personaility and Koeman who made some comments about young kids being individuals not team players and stuff about stuck to their smartphones/music etc

Various managers have made comments about how hard he trains though to counter balance that, and read that he still holds all the records on the PSV training equipment (yeah a really wierd thing to here they kept records)

My thing is not ever read or heard anything about him getting into trouble, missing training, having training ground bustups or going out on the lash till 4am or being disruptive whilst he has been out the team, so maybe it's one of those chinese whisper things that has been allowed to run to explain why he's never playing - (oh his character/temperment etc)

Gattusso busted out at Rangers mate, sometimes certain players don't fit certain clubs or managers, and United these past 3 years seems to be a place thats no one is looking good after going there, Christ DiMaria got flogged out of there, and Mkhitaryian could face the same fate, both of whom are tremendous players

I like that he slyly photographs other mens arses
