....I remember him playing against us for Fulham as a youngster fresh from non-league football and he was good. As you say, he's tried and tested in the Premiership and would provide aerial presence. He seems to be injured a lot, though, so I'd be a bit wary on that front.

Thats true, last season 35 games but the 2 previous were 25 each...3 seasons before that were under 20 games.

Him and Keane are probably just token English player links.

I think we should be looking at strengthening for next season now and give the new players 8 months to settle. Meanwhile get rid of alot of players.

There is a point to that, I guess we have to show some trust that players signed this month are genuine targets that RK/SW would have wanted to sign in the summer anyway, and we still need to finish as high as we can.

My concern is being able to sustain the amount of investment required over the next 2-3 windows, a good January even though it would be very welcome isn't going to be game-changing for us unless we repeat in the summer.

Maybe he more of a decent price and young defender who improving. The fee around VVD is insane right now and wouldn't pay more then 30 million.

There is a point to that, I guess we have to show some trust that players signed this month are genuine targets that RK/SW would have wanted to sign in the summer anyway, and we still need to finish as high as we can.

This is why its imperative that the young players keep getting games for us this season so they can get experience and develop for next year where they could be at least squad players.

That saves us signing new players for the squad and also enables us to clear out the dross we have accumulated and sign less players for more money.

Its the difference between signing a £20mil player as 1st choice + a £10mil backup and having a kid + a £30mil player...it all adds up.

We dont need to sign players who at 23 'may improve'.

What we need is teenagers with high potential + stars who can immediately improve our team.

I think our squad (the best in a generation, and mentally as tough as an SAS troop) needs little dilution via recruitment in this window.
