They weren't though. Martinez attacking play was based on over committing players forward. So it had a detrimental effect on the defence, hence why teams would suddenly look like they'd score as soon as they won the ball back by their own penalty area. It still wasn't good enough to break organised sides down though, teams had well and truly worked us out.

The whole squad needed ripping up and rebuilding and that's what Koeman is doing. I agree he seems to be trying to make us hard to beat first, but is that a bad thing? We've had average athletes who weren't anything special technically for years, Moyes built a team around them, but you can't compete on a football level against better technical players trying to match them. I like that Koeman is bringing in different styles of player and trying to make us tough to break down. A midfield pairing of Gueye and Schneiderlin should make us difficult to break down.

Let's hope he can bring in someone who can offer something a bit different further forward now.

Koeman the former CB should have sorted that. He didn't.

I don't even think his minions find him funny anymore, it's just an incredibly upsetting state of affairs for all concerned.

I'm not sure this is true, there is a lot of revisionism going on. That being said, I have no issue with posters airing their concerns; that, after all is what a forum is about. I do take issue with posters giving their opinions as facts when it is nothing more than speculation. Moshiri in a short space of time has made huge progress off the pitch and everything points towards him wanting us to return to the top. Dave his picked one comment from the AGM and keeps using this as an argument that he is just here to use the club as a cash cow. Nobody knows what the intention is, but to keep claiming this as a fact is disingenuous and does little other than annoy other fans who are actually quite enjoying the fact that we seem to be able to sign players for actual money.

There was definitely a sentiment of worry around here from some circles before that season really got going

I've never known a situation like this at Everton. We always have a clear line of command: the manager is front and centre and he has the final word on the playing side of things.

I said before I think the DoF role just encourages a cowardly manager to try and get away with poor decisions. I want my manager bold enough to say he got his man and why he bought him, I dont want some shrug of the shoulders and casting doubt on where the signing emerged from.

Has Koeman got past form for this? Otherwise, this is an unfair accusation. I have to trust the team to bring in the right players this window. If the opportunity for a door unlocker such as Payet comes up- grab it.

Did it well enough in 13/14 though. With 16 clean sheets. You're not being very consistent here.

Okay @Devek enough is enough about Martinez(he's gone) an his 1st season, wow he got 71 points where did we finish? 5th same as Moyes did a few times and Moyes also got us 4th. Wow he got us to 2 semi finals, big whup Moyes took us to a FA cup Final. Martinez also gave us 2 4-0 hammering at Anfield also failed to beat Liverpool. Got stuffed in Russia. Signed a player who can't even play football for 13.5 mil. He played horrendous football that was boring, turned Fortress Goodison in to happy away fans land. He had 1 good season 3 years ago get over it already, we moved on.
