People are deluded if they think we can get him when teams like real madrid or united are behind him...and this even with Ancelotti. He will cost over 100 millions at least and he will want to play in a team that is challenging for titles. Let's be realistic guys...I know its Christmas but still...

I know it doesn't happen but the point was more that someone employed by a CL side is unlikely to leave to come here.

I enjoy your posts MG and find myself agreeing with you 99% of the time however I just can’t for the life of me see how you’ve come to this conclusion.

Everytime I’ve seen him play he screams premier league to me.

The last 2 years he’s looked the best centre half on the pitch, including VVD when they’ve played Liverpool. They’ve matched up again each other directly in both boxes for set pieces and Koulibaly easily had the upper hand to me.

Maybe you’ve seen more of him than me but I personally don't have any concerns of him not working here if he came.

Watched him once or twice mate.

Was just trying to trigger Zat.

Looks a big strong unit, bit concerned at his age and the price he would cost, but other than that I would take him tomorrow.

It is understood that signing a right-sided centre-half and a striker are seen as priorities by Ancelotti for the summer window but he may ask for a temporary solution in those areas next month.

I'd echo this. I haven't seen a lot of him, other than the games against Liverpool but was very impressed in those games. Looked a proper leader as well.

Those two are too old. Were ok signing one or two in the 25-28 age bracket and the rest u25...otherwise in the 2-3 years it takes to rebuild the squad those 30 year olds will need replacing too...another delph situation.





In terms of power and athleticism i think the most standout in the league.

My gut feeling is Ancelotti will want players with more experience. A short sharp boost to get us to top 6/4 at the end of 18 months, then more long term planning.

That's what the likes of Mertens and Callejon (and to a degree Nzonzi) would satisfy that for us.

In terms of costs, as they are out of contract, they would also not be extortionate either.

As a club we've had some success with over 30s. I can see sense in it.

I was very impressed with Mertens at Anfield s well.
