If I was playing for a club that I didn’t support, that were well below my standard, a full international with some big performances in tournament football, and with my contract was running down - I’d let it run down leave on free and join some continental team on the big bucks, enjoy some mild winters and glorious summers on the med.
I’d also make a nice social media post about how said club would always be in my heart and how painful the decision to leave was. Maybe add a few hearts in said teams colours at the end.
