There is also a tax liability on the whole 40m as he is a home grown player so profit is about 32m and then this will be in structured payments.

I anticipate we'll still be in the red even after this income, so I doubt tax will be a worry.

I dont know their finances but surely they haven't posted combined losses anywhere near ours plus their revenue is infinitely better.

Your missing my base point mate - I didn’t say he shouldn’t leave based on events - I said we shouldn’t have sanctioned the move to make us weaker until we had someone in and not leave ourselves weaker - the two things are very different.

I don't think we have the cash to get someone in though mate, and defo didn't pre-Gordon transfer. This is the position we have left ourselves in. Danjuma bailed at the last minute, and we didn't have any other loan targets lined up for some reason.

We gave ourselves one shot to get cover in ahead of time and blew it. To have delayed the transfer based on our slapstick attempts to organise an alternative would have led to many different kinds of pain, I suspect.

All I keep getting told by people who work in recruitment is that Thelwell and the recruitment team simply can't be blamed, because it's 'just so difficult' when the manager has changed.

Yes, changing manager late in the window doesn't help, especially when the two main candidates had such differing styles.

But it's been clear what has been required now since September 1st. There's zero, zero excuse for not having had players through the door well before Lampard got sacked.

He should have players identified for all eventualities. That's his job. To have no players lined up until the final day of the window is negligent. There's countless posters on here who could come up with a new team for any new manager. I'm not saying we could get those players but a list would be there.
