On a free with so little output from our attacking players would Isco be an option?

What's the worse that could happen if he dosen't work out?

I'd fear for him in training to be honest. Supremely talented player, but never with the best work ethic and at close to 31 its unlikely he'd change now.

That said, he's the best free agent available. He's unlikely to be short of offers.

As the big ig says, you’re massively overegging the amount of games, and also ignoring the fact we did well at that time with other set ups too. That back 4 was in place for a 4 game winning streak, but we also had another 4 game streak and a 3 game streak with different set ups in the same period. We were just better in general.

That's all fair.

I will have to have a look again properly, apologies if it's less than 14 games, that was my recollection.

I would agree, that the team overall way better, and so that has to be factored in. There is a counter point though, which is essentially that playing Godfrey over Lucas Digne is Lucas Dignes position is one thing. Playing him over Mykolenko is another. That's not to slaughter Mykolenko, who I think is genuinely trying, but hes very limited. Godfrey is also limited as a fullback, but I don't think it's as currently and dried as to who is better.

I'm also happy to concede there is a lot of straw clutching here from me. That's what it's an exercise in. We are in an awful situation. So I dont say things with enormous certainty, beyond it may be the least worst option available to us.

It’s honestly quite difficult to see anyone saying ‘I think they did the right thing’ as anything other than a club plant. This isn’t like one of those slightly disappointing windows where one extra signing might have helped the European push, this is a window where a side which scores 3 times in every 4 games sold its second top scorer and didn’t replace him, while all the teams around us strengthened. It’s an unmitigated disaster, suggesting otherwise is bizarre.

I try and see both sides, but like you I really struggle to see the logic of not spending as the right thing.

Dont get me wrong, however unpopular it would be, I can actually see a case for giving up, recouping money and preparing for relegation. Norwich basically so this every season. West Brom used to do it too. The prices being quoted our ludicrous, and you're shopping for none premium players in January. I do understand the concept.

However that is, in absolutely no sense what the club has done. We were bidding for players, are apparently pursuing a 33 year old Ayew etc. But more importantly, we are not in anyway way set up for the championship. We have a huge wage bill, unlikely to have relegation clauses in, a stadium that is 18 months off completion etc. We have made a string of short term managerial appointments aimed at getting us to the stadium, and made a lot of short term signings to go along with that.

You really cant just turn around, after hours fail to close a single deal and say that was the plan after all. Look we might get away with it by some miracle. But that's not the plan. It's just pure good fortune.

Loans like this should be a basic wage, and a bonus per goal/win, if involved in the game.

None of this 50k a week for a departing star to sit on the bench and jog around for 10 minutes a la Rondon.
