He’d be very foolish to retire simply due to the fact he can easily make millions still in his career for doing nothing. He’s probably on £100k or something with us at the minute, that’s £5m a year, even if he dropped down a level or two he’d still make millions, he could come back to us and be nothing but a backup that never plays and still make loads of money just to train.
In terms of mentally checking out and having issues of course footballers can go through these things, United are seeing it at the moment with Sancho too. I fear with Dele that something has to have gone badly wrong and he needs help. On the other side of it though anyone who’s been a professional footballer can’t understand the life of a normal person in terms of money and work, they’d be fools to leave a profession that at absolute bare minimum would pay them the average person’s yearly salary every month, if not more and in less time.

I think going to the Turkish league was a drop in standard.

Without being able to validate it, the snippets I've heard from a few people suggest it's more he doesn't want to do it, or at least won't put the effort in to succeed.
The comments suggested pretty much a poor attitude to training and an aptitude for tardiness, which appears to match up with what Mourinho alluded to.
Is it this summer? I thought he signed a 2•5 year deal, I think he may be contracted until summer 2024.

That's exactly it mate, Spurs fans down my way will tell you that there was a point where he just seemed to stop being arsed about footy and was more bothered about what bar or club he had been seen in. He was turning up to training and looking lazy and other Spurs players/manager were getting fed up with him. I think ultimately he has just fallen out with the game, it does happen, I mean plenty of people in ordinary walks of life get bored of their jobs and change careers.

As I say, I can't guarantee it's true, however one apparent example was during training where he came out from the changing rooms late due to being on his phone.
When he did eventually come out, he was giving nowhere near 100% during a drill, so Clement verbally challenged him. This appeared to be a growing trend.

Id have to ask what his phone was doing in the dressing room, the Klopps and Peps and those guys won't allow that sort of a distraction during training.
