January Transfer Window 2023

Villa, Wolves, Fulham and West Ham all have higher net spend in the last 5 years than us - why can't we spend?

I actually reckon Moshiri is keeping the purse closed until he can sell the club.
While I certainly think that the threats were real in terms of PL spending limits for us, I believe that when we read that sort of line in the media now it's either being rehashed for additional drama or even fed by the club. I understand the wage to turnover is still high and our revenues are catching up from the lockdown, but there's no way that we don't have wiggle room now. This was always going to happen to some extent with the stadium cost, but I think it was majorly exacerbated by Moshiri having to cut ties with Usamov and his wanting a return his investment with selling the club.

Chelsea is looking to loan David fofana out, a striker that they just bought....not be surprised if he ends up here. Hopefully not as we should not encourage that type of behaviour in football. For me any first team player bought shouldn't allow to leave on loan for at least a year...this is worst that any ffp regulation...
- Premier League clubs cannot loan to another Premier League club a player they have acquired in the same transfer window.

He wont be coming here.

And his BOD will be too clueless to point out the obvious to him, that if he doesn't spend now then relegation is nailed on.

By the sounds of it, not going to be any signings until after the Southampton game at the earliest.

Lampard:

"We want to help the squad in January but my job has to first and foremost to be to work with the players we have here now and to get results against Manchester United and Southampton.

"If we can help the squad then great, but it's not an easy window and everybody knows that. We'll certainly try to improve it because it feels like we need that for sure."

That’s the theory around DofF but that should see us recruiting managers who have a similar philosophy. Does the follow when allegedly Martinez and dyche are on a shortlist? They couldn’t be more different

The Dyche and Martinez shouts are purely fan theories though.

For all we know is...they don't have a list of they do

Well not my theory , journalist reporting . I do accept that might be complete and total BS but I’ll evidence that by saying with a director of footballer we went from Martinez - Koeman - Sam - silva and on on and on and if you can find any thread that connects those appointments other than failure, you’re a better man than me .

Just remembered, don’t we have the option to buy Cody for £4 million this January?

Are we really that potless we can’t get the deal done?!?

Just go and and spend pureeee doe and take the point deduction/fine next season when we're the best team in the world.

In all seriousness though, if we don't find some good bargains we are gonna be scrapping until the the final games like last season.

Squad is so unbalanced and crap upfront

Everything is taken into account isn’t it, including wages, turnover etc

We’ve only really shifted the main majority of wages last summer which was a huge outgoing of ours.
We've probably spent more on sacking managers than buying players.
We only see the manger go but the backroom staff need paying off as well.

Dread to think how much binning Frank will cost.

He will be gone by then

But that is the issue with us, the DoF is not in charge of the footballing matters, our board simply just refuses to stay out of team affairs and they want the final say on everything. Other clubs just let their managerial team get on with it.
Yes that's why it takes us an age to do anything and it's usually the wrong decision because our owner and chairman meddle. It's why Brands left either you are doing the dof model or you aren't

I'm sick of hearing this line, whether it's fans that trot it out or managers, plenty of clubs DO manage business in the winter window with no issues. It's one of those crap excuses for lazy clubs who can't scout or can't get their financials in order.

Villa sold Jack the lad for £100 million. Wolves may have sold a few for a bit of money as well.
West Ham have had European football for the last few seasons and gone far in. The competition.
Fulham more than likely have a low wages to turnover ration due to being promoted. Means they have cash on the hip.

We have had no European footy for years, had to can our main sponsor due to a war in Ukraine, are still paying off countless managers. And still have a load of bums on Sky high wages we can’t shift.

Got 18 months left on his contract. Can't imagine he was in a position to demand top dollar from us when we got him. That said, it'll no doubt cost the club a good £5-6 million to fire him I am sure.

Thought the same. All transfer windows are hard. Transfers are hard in general. But it's the same for everyone and you have to try to beat your rivals. As usual, we're not.
