If we are relying on Elanga, that is one almighty punt.

Thelwell leaving us with a front 3 full of players that have never scored goals and nothing at all as back up in August, ranks alongside the very worst of Walsh or Brands.
Yeah, I've just said we have to resign ourselves to the fact that anyone will be a punt, but he feels like a slightly different level of punt; one where you're almost just taking a shot in the dark.

I'm very confident Godfrey is not good enough
“It was a surprise for me because I knew him, but not a lot and I found a really fantastic defender because he has all the quality that a defender needs.

“He’s powerful, he has a lot of energy, tactically intelligent, really aggressive in the duels and so he can play in different positions and this is really important.

“He played really well as a left-back when Digne was out and so really pleased to have him in the squad.” - Carlo Ancelotti

I trust Carlo over you.

It's not really a shot in the dark. He's not good, and while he's 20 and could get better that won't be happening in the time we have him.

Yes because managers often give honest assessments of players to the press.

He's crap, was crap and the sooner we learn why that mistake was made the better.

People seem to think by defending the players I'm saying they're good when I'm simply saying they aren't the worst attacking wide I've ever seen that isn't coached by Dyche or Pulis.
If DCL had been fit all season, sure, because he's a focal point to build around. So you'd have better. But he hasn't been.

But this is a poor attack. We know the kind of chances DCL thrives off but we have nobody consistently able to create thos kinds of chances. Our most creative player can't cross a ball and our best crosser can't run. Our most dangerous wide threat is Gray and he's wildly inconsistent with his decison making, which at 26 isn't showing signs of improvement.

It vitally needs help. Even if it's a player who can just support/fill in for DCL that doesn't completely change the system (so everybody knows what to work with and where a player will run etc).

I actually go the other way from most it seems. I don't think better attackers are going to make a difference if Lampard is in charge. I think real management is more important right now.

That would be a fair comment if Ancelotti didn't play him. The fact is he played nearly every game in Ancelotti's one full season, so he clearly rated him.

If one of the best ever managers played him most matches in a season, he clearly has a lot of talent.

You are just chatting crap

What were Ancelotti's other options? He played him because he had to.

dont know if mentioned, but seriously can not see Villareal loan Danjuma to us. Not so long ago he was lined to much bigger clubs than us.
so why would Villareal do this deal with us. I think a lot of crap tbh

I think both are equally important.

What I will say though is Lampard's teams have always been good build up sides (until this version we've seen from November onwards of us, I will stress, with that mad 4-3-3 structure that's more like 4-1-2-2-1), and he's then relied more on individual moments from his players in the final third to show their quality, rather than clearly defined moves and patterns of play.

It worked at Derby as he had Mount who was levels above in that league. It worked in his first season at Chelsea to an extent, too, especially when he got Pulisic firing (though he then moved Pulisic to a different position after an injury and it stopped ). It didn't click in his second season there as it was a load of new attackers and frankly they bought too many who played the same kind of roles.

However with this Everton squad you definitely need more clearly defined patterns of play and ways to attack to get to goal - I agree there, and that's on him. On the flip side, if we had some better players, we'd probably also see more quality moments in the final third, wouldn't we. We saw it to an extent at times even last season with Richy.

So IMO we need both.

The stats are grim reading. Over our last 10 league games we've put in 170 crosses. 17 crosses a game isn't bad. Yet only 38 have reached an Everton player, an average of 3.8 per game. That's the standard we're dealing with when it comes to consistency in delivery, and it's the same with passes etc.

Maybe they want money ok I know it’s a loan to obligation, they will get some now and know more is coming, maybe he wants to leave.

Are you saying it isn't bad as in we should be aiming to cross a lot? I disagree on that premise.

I mean if we crosses more as part of just generally attacking more cool, but to me a lot of the issue is we have no way of actually playing in the middle of the field. Teams shepherd us wide, deal with the cross, repeat.
