January Transfer Window 2023

Branthwaite is 21 in June.
Godfrey is 25 in 5 days time (15th January)
Holgate is 27 in October.

I'm not suggesting any of these will end up like Dave Watson, but lets not pretend they don't exist and all our eggs are in the Tarkowski (31 in November) & Coady (loan) (30 in February) basket. It is disingenuous to say the least.
None are good enough. We will need new CBs in the next 3 to 5 windows.

The difference here is I believe the players are better than they're showing and the manager is an absolute mess who kills all chance they might have to succeed. I still think it's fine, meaning we should finish like 15th, and I don't think we can definitively say different until we all get to see these players in the hands of someone who actually should be in charge of a PL football club. It's possible that never happens but still.

It's not idealism by the way. It's actually quite practical. What's not practical is doing what we've already see Sunderland, Villa and others do that eventually ends in relegation. The only way to get the club on steady ground again is to acknowledge relegation might happen and simply start fixing it piece by piece in the mean time. You can still refresh and reload while you're down. I'd submit Wolves (I know the shady Mendes stuff helped) as evidence. If we don't go down awesome. If we do it will be way easier if we're already on the road to recovery instead of starting from scratch.

Nothing we do in January can guarantee safety. But we can guarantee that we are doing the right things to get better. Control what you can control.
If only it were the case this shower were better than they’re showing.

Many on here have been guilty of wishful thinking about the ability of the likes of Demari Gray, Gordon, Iwobi etc and underrating players we’ve lost, as well as how easy they’d be to replace in our position.

It isn’t even hindsight, plenty warned it was heading this way. It isn’t remotely surprising we are where we are and deserve to be. For you, I guess all you can do is admit you were very badly wrong or….blame the manager.

People seem to think by defending the players I'm saying they're good when I'm simply saying they aren't the worst attacking wide I've ever seen that isn't coached by Dyche or Pulis.

That was what people kept saying this time last season though. We just kicked the can along the road, and actually regressed rather than progressed in the summer.

Also don’t forget the idea of signing Maupay and McNeil was that they knew the league and wouldn’t need a period of adjustment to settle in
It might not have happened, but that doesn't mean it's not the right approach!

The house is on fire, that needs to be put out. Then we can worry about getting a new kitchen.
