They have an academy as well I think. Reinstated it this year.Surely the idea of having an academy is to make and save you money. Don’t get it myself. Even the Spanish and German teams that have B teams have academies as well. Also if Brentford ever get into Europe they’ll be absolutely knackered, as UEFA rules require each team to have 4 home grown players trained at the club for 3 years before the age of 21.

Academies cost a fortune though and they only make money if you actually produce players good enough to sell. Brentford are clearly a small club so for them the cost is probably not worth it - just looked it up and they closed it as it was costing them money they couldn't afford it and they didn't see it as viable to run longer term.
What about the respective trajectories of Everton and Brentford makes you look at them and think they're the strange ones?
