January Transfer Window 2023

Right another question when will it be ok for us to spend what we want when does the so called financial restrictions stop surly if we haven't spent hardly anything for say 4 windows does it reset on the rules I can't understand it's odd imo

They are spreading it across crazy 8 year contracts so the amortisation spreads

Sounds good in theory but if one of your players badly flops you're stuck with them for 8 years
Even if they flop clubs like ours buy them at inflated prices because they're at Chelsea.

They have incoming transfer/loan fees as well as bigger revenues which enable them to buy. I can't imagine the Lukaku deal has done much for their books though. That one makes the Gomes deal look smart.

Personally I think our issues are not down to FFP, well to some degree, our issue is that there is no money in the business, we have a wages to income ratio of 96%.

Which is just beyond stupid.

So when we finish 16th/17th, we take a MASSIVE hit on our income due to prize money.

Mosh was "supporting" our spending via Uzy, that tap has been turned off, for now.

If only we had an accountant running the club

That ratio is absolutely nightmarish - and bordering on criminally negligent

Is this still the case? We e slashed tens of millions of the wage bill the last 2 years

We were losing incredible amounts of money despite fake oligarch sponsorship deals. We made the P&L limits thanks to some very creative COVID based accounting. And now our generous benefactor has had his assets seized. I don't think that we have any money to spend even if we were allowed to spend it.

Hopefully I'm wrong.

So it's nothing to do with the governor of the rules of fffp doing this. Just like say forest buying players for fun ..I thought we were buying more than the income coming in if we haven't spent nothing say for 4 windows how does that work out when clubs around us can

Ye but it always comes up we can't spend because of rules we haven't spent big for a good while now so when does that reset so we can

It's a 3 year rolling number and my understanding is that we're still losing money hand over fist. My point was more that even if the reset happens I don't think we have any money to spend.

You can make losses in a year, but it has to be less than a set amount (£105m) over a 3 year period. So Forest have a massive revenue increase this year for being in the prem, but it will have to even out in 2 years time. Chelseas turnover is huge, so they can spend more, but as someone said, its gonna be close and i cant see how they can keep it up, especially when their wages are much higher than ours as well.

But realistically, the rules are vague enough that they can enforce it as and when they like. Its there to keep people in their place as much as anything else.

If they were truly, honestly bothered about fairness and/or competition, and if they were really concerned about businesses being run within their means, they would have proper limits in place. Squad sizes, wage caps, transfer budgets, etc.

But they're not, so they dont.

Thanks Andy, does that mean the slate is clean after that , could we throw a load of money at our club next season if we stayed up because we've spent not so much last few seasons and sold richarlison prior for big money

Not for a while mate,

It’s not about spend, it’s about losses. The club earns 190 million, but in the last set of accounts we went 120 million over that, thats the loss, we’ve posted a loss in 6 of the seven season since Moshiri he’s been here. How do Everton pay their overspend I.e. loss, Moshiri writes cheques.

Problem is the profit and sustainability rules mean you can only loose 35 mill a season. You can see we loose significantly more than that.

So when will we be able to spend big again? When that 120 mill overspend/loss figure gets down to zero and likely a couple of seasons of it to reset.

Where are we now, it’s likely we are going to post an overspend/loss of about 70 odd million this season in the next few weeks for 21/22, so there has been about a 50 mill improvement, but our losses/overspend are still massive.

So why do they come for us, last year Leeds and Burnley complained about us.. could not get my head around it

People keep saying this.

Whilst the wage bill has been reduced, it hasnt been slashed.

We are paying Yerry Mina 120k to sit on the bench, Andre Gomes 120k to play for Nice, Gmbamin whoever he plays for these days, I honestly dont recall.

Sure we got rid of Iceland, Hamez, but we got Tarks on a free.

We are gonna need to see the latest accounts to find out the true figure.

Happy to admit its been reduced, but I cant see it being slashed, personally.
