….it usually takes a conversation with the manager to make deals like this happen. We don’t have a Manager.

Devil's advocate - why would we commit £100k pw to a player that a new manager might not want?

To me it makes sense to have a new manager sign off on it

The DOF is supposed to choose the manager based on the style and strategy they want to incorporate.

The manager comes in under that remit.

Players are signed by DOF once manager gives input on the type they want.

That's the utopia, but we have no idea whether Thelwell has ever been given the remit of responsibility for the choice of manager

As has been said before on here, not many clubs (at least in the UK) actually do that. Even when Dan Ashworth was at Brighton, he admitted the owner was the one who hired and fired managers

…yes, that’s the supposed process (although I wouldn’t be certain of that at Everton), but we know from conversation with the likes of Onana that his conversations with Lampard influenced his decision to come here.

The Manager will have a key role to play in convincing players. The lack of a manager will turn most players away. The DoF will have a major task on his hands bringing anybody in at this moment.

They’ve already lied about someone being put in a headlock, absolutely nothing is off the table when it comes to things they’ll do to avoid an inquest
Yeah but there was a (very warped) reason for that. Unless you think they WANT us relegating, there’s no logic to your suggested lie.

As Mcneil was signed as a wing option in the summer, Gordon was kept because he was seen as the future and in the club's heads everything will be fine when Calvert Lewin is fit (which isn't something that actually survives contact with reality), I don't have any faith in whoever is making the transfer decisions to pick the right players. Also, Moyes didn't want Danjuma, likely to do with personality. Something he was undoubtedly good at when here.

If we feel we have to go with Dyche style, we'll need different players and we have hardly any money. I'm not in a rush to see them sign someone before the manager is in place, its just repeating the old cycles
