That part would be very stupid, we agree. Buying more young players with more dart throws from other prospect's returns, that then could be sold for similar returns is quite literally the only way I see we get out of this longterm broadly.

Facts are right now we are the worst team in the division with more chances of going down than not. The possibility that come the summer we have been relegated, Gordon demands a move that because of the drop is a return thats been cut in half, the same with Onana for a collective return of around 50 million is extremely plausible. When the conversation is a difference of possibly 35/40 million selling now oppose to then, when literally one of those players is replacement level at present it has to be discussed as who else rostered is going to generate funds for us to improve a championship side.

I would rather not sell Onana but its worthy of discussion as the situation is what it is. I personally have no qualms with selling Gordon as I think his market is inflated and currently he isn't a factor in surviving or not. If we can make a decent profit I see no reason why 4 or 5 prospects could not be brought in over the next two windows of similar potential, in play and possible future returns. A possibility that seriously may be our only chance back into the first division or stay in the premier league longterm as I don't see how else we get better.
I assumed that the money would be reinvested in more experienced players to get us out of trouble because otherwise I just don't know why we would even consider selling a key player midway through the season when they've only been here 6 months. Unless we'd be getting more than double what we paid it doesn't seem a good idea to me to sell and go and sign another 21 year old who might not be as good/might not settle etc. We might aswell just wait until the end of the season and see where we are before selling. Gordon I'd happily see go. Not because I don't think he can ever be a good player but because we could potentially get good money for someone who has no impact on the team at them moment and who doesn't appear to have a great attitude.

Selling Gordon along with Keane, Holgate and other non-essential players is fine.

Then bring in 3 new attackers.

Selling Onana mid season would be suicide unless it was £90mil and we had 3 u21 starters ready to sign and hit the ground running.
Those are my thoughts as well with Gordon. I personally cant make a good reason not to sell currently. He isnt a difference in current results, has an inflated market rate, the wealthiest suitor and with the risk his fee could be cut in half with relegation. All arrows point to being pragmatic and move on.

Sadly Keane and Holgate aren't going to fetch anything in my estimation in relation to returns. Maybe in wage clearing but alas.

Onana is a more abstract conversation. I think he is our best prospect and longterm player. And considering his arrival its also fair to surmise he would not have to be moved if we go down. Him playing well if we came back up and establishing himself as our best player or a very attractive option in the market is conceivable.

In the same token profit's profit and we have little pathways to it. And I am not sure Gordon's return really will be enough to adequately invest and either stay or get back to the premier league. If we are down for more then two years Onana may leave at a significant loss regardless of his quality. Again something I think an in the realm possibility. If we got significant profit in an offer I think we would be wise to at least consider it although I'd likely land on the side of holding considering his current quality and the benefits of staying up.

Gordon clearly isn’t playing. Either he’s unfit, not up for the fight, or he’s leaving.

He either needs to get fit, get up for the fight or leave. Why do we take so long in sorting anything out. Let’s do what other clubs do. Release a sly statement to say he’s close to joining Chelsea and that will make Newcastle come in for him with a higher bid. We are far too nice as a club.

This is like Club In Crisis bingo.

Off the top of me head in no particular order:

Uzbek gangster in charge and sanctioned
Garbage team
Horrendous board
Dire DOF
Can’t score
Can’t keep clean sheets
Seething fanbase
Arrogant lying chairman
Atrocious Communications Team
Players desperate to leave, missing training
Not one player has had a good season
No money
Each deal monitored by League
Loan players escaping down south
Wasters we are unable to sell on massive wage
Two away wins in a calendar year
Relegation zone
On worst home run in 70 years
Next up the runaway leaders and the RS
Linked with diabolical managers
Owner says he isn’t in charge of decisions
Media says owner making decisions
Ex-legend on board says fans are over the top
Club makes up phantom attack to smear fans
Club sack manager, take 5 hours to confirm
Linked to managers sacked by relegation rivals
Fans already accepting relegation
Total breakdown in trust between fans + club
Each day brings a new low

Apart from that, we are sound.

I am sure there are many many more I’ve missed out. Going for a lie down.

I really don't think Onana would ever play for us in the Championship. The guy is going places, and he certainly knows he is, he doesn't seem to be lacking in ego. I doubt he's with us next season no matter which league we're in.

Selling Onana now is crazy, doesn't matter how much money we'd get for him, there's absolutely 0 chance we could replace him and he's essential to this team. Selling Gordon on the other hand might be worth it, he's clearly checked out and if we get relegated he's only going to go for about £10m in the summer, better to cash out now. Say we get £40m for him, we could possibly bring in the likes of Sulemana (loan), N'Diaye (£15m), Dieng (£15-20m) and revitalise this attack. I'd also be looking to get in a decent LB as I'm not convinced about Myko.

This is the strategy that our owner keeps trying to use, and every window without fail we end it weaker than we started. I’m sick of “waiting til the end of the window” to be honest with you.

We cant effect things from this forum.

Simply saying lets not stress ourselves before the end of the window.

At some point the law of averages says we'll have some luck.

if he leaves in the summer that means he did well and we likely survive - I don't care if he goes then.

When you put it like that not too bad really ….
