Tony’s Carp
Player Valuation: £50m
A theory I have is that now we’ve been hit for 22/23 FFP we might be slightly more inclined to sell him for a profit.Makes sense to me if we can get a big fee. Rough calculation. 30m signed in 2022 on a five year deal.
Amortization 6m a year. 1.5 years as at Jan 24, leaves roughly 21m value on books.
Selling for 60m leaves us just under 40m profit.
Note, not sure how clubs deal with residual value, so profit likely lower
For sure the fact we were in FFP trouble from the previous yer and spent 30m on Onana will come up. If we can point to the fact we’ve already sold for profit it could be a mitigation as it was a successful investment with the value realised quickly.
It won’t change the numbers for 22/23 but if the rules are anything to do with profit and sustainability clubs have to be able to player trade successfully, that’s how you become sustainable. It’s at least something we could argue in mitigation.
I’d be worried about an Onana sale and how we replace him but if someone’s got to go it’s another reason it might be best if it’s him.
