Unfortunately he will need more than size to be a successful premier League defender. At times last night and, especially towards the end of the match, he got too close to the attacker. A good attacker could spin him.
he wasn't spun though. can we stop criticising players for things they haven't done?
The only thing I saw that he needs to be careful of is the grappling. Everything else he was very good at.

There’s also Gibson to consider, be interesting to see what they do with him.

let’s hope he doesn’t turn into Peter Clark Mk II

Good on the lad, gave a good account of himself both on and off the pitch, hope we see a lot more of him over the next few seasons.

.....very composed and a great size, especially when he grows into his frame. Not rapid but mobile enough.

He needs to learn how to defend, that will be his key development over the coming years but he will get that playing and training with seasoned professionals as well as being coached at this level.

We need to accept he’ll make defensive mistakes but already he looks a decent signing. The strategy of buying promising youngsters is a success, it’s low risk and high reward.

I saw someone say he was quick, I mean I haven't seen that yet and must admit I didn't witness it, but apparently people saying he's quite quick.

The things that really stood out to me were 2 fold. Carragher couldn't be more complimentary of him, in both of the games he played. He can be quite cutting and critical can Carragher, but he was very supportive.
The other point, that has struck me is that actually Keane played very well next to him. I don't want to say he is singularly responsible for that, but Keane is like a Jekyll and Hyde character depending who he's next too. Mina, Williams to a degree Jagielka he never looked settled too. At times he's looked hideous next to some of them. Zouma and Holgate it's a different story altogether and yesterday he looked comfortable next to Branthwaite. Thats all a big compliment to me.

Great opportunity to show what he can do in the next two games, as he arguably already has with his previous two performances (excluding the foul and losing his man against Wolves, he was pretty good).

Hopefully he continues on and puts pressure on the other centre backs we've got because I don't think anybody believes enough in Keane and Mina going forward, and the more competition for places the better, especially in a position we started the season with Keane and Mina and Holgate as back-up.

I saw him in a cup game for Carlisle on the telly, did reasonably well and he didn’t do much wrong against Villa, the club clearly think he has potential but he’s got a long long way to go, good luck to the lad though, natural left sided centre halves are hard to get hold of.
