....but you just can’t guarantee that unless we send him to the local Sunday League. Points are precious, managers are less interested in individual development and he won’t be allowed to make many mistakes.

I think this lad could be very good but sending him out on loan is high risk and could actually send his development backwards.
It's a risk, but so is keeping him here. There's no right way or wrong way when it comes to loans etc, it's about what's best in the individual circumstances. I know you don't like loans but they can be beneficial. We can't just never send anybody out on loan again because some of them haven't worked out.

Well Blackburn and Tony Mowbray is not a bad option for Branthwaite, but they’re apparently looking at a number of defenders, as you’d expect in case they’re turned down . They’ve got a few CBs out injured so Branthwaite could step straight into their first team . The caution is if he takes time to settle he could be out in the cold if injured players return .
I think from his performances so far and glimpses of him in training he’d be fine at Championship level this season and would be relatively confident he could hold down a position and get games . I think it’s a risk but a low risk , at worst he will get 5 months exposure to another manager and another division, we will still have 4 CBs as back up. All depends on Carlo , as it should do .

iirc, he was very nervous on his debut and gave away a goal, a pen or something.
But put it behind him and seemed to gain confidence week to week.

Until a Digne type replacement for Coleman comes along, the 4 amigos across the back has been tight...add Branthwaite to the 4 and its covered.
He might have to wait to get in, but in a standard back four of 2 fullbacks and 2 centre backs, 2 out of the 4 would have to bide their time as well.
He's never...apart from his first few minutes...let Ancelotti down and that I think counts for something.

I could see a back 3 and a half when Digne gets back of; Holgate, Branthwaithe, Godfrey & Digne.

Is that a rumour him going on loan to Blackburn?

Given Keane and Mina's form, the return of Holgate and the emergence of Godfrey, a loan is probs the best, even if it's only a short term one.

Send him out recovering from injury to get kicked to bits in a lower league - Josh Bowler a fast speedy winger now out after a great start in the under 23s is a prime example of loans in a clogging league .....
He came back looked great then bang injured .....

Depends on the severity of his injury I suppose mate, if it is a niggly one then maybe extended rehab at the club is what's best for him. It's just a shame for him I think though, he'd have definitely got some game time for us this season so far imo, would be a shame for him to benchwarm for the remainder.

Not sure what you’re saying re injuries there mate. Branthwaite is fully recovered, has played a full U23s game, trained and been on the bench for the 1st team.
Bowler was injured playing for the U23s so nothing to do with being on loan. He’s one of our best U23s but nowhere near a first team place so arguably he needs a loan too either prove himself fully or find another team - another purpose of loans.

We have players on the bench ATM who should not deserve to be there .....e.g. Tosun - sending out talented goth plars is a policy that never ever works for us ......
