Unbelievable news for our defence this season and probably our finances over the coming years. Slightly bizarre decision from the lad given the state of the club, but fair play, his salary will have gone through the roof now for as long as he is here, and he is guaranteed game time. Too early to go to United/City etc. Earn your stripes for a few years in the trenches. Plenty of time to earn a medal sitting on a bench.

Its gives us an extra year extension if im reading right, he had a contract to 2005, we had an option to extend until 2026 and hes now signed until 2027.
Fair play to the club though for recogniseing and rewarding his development and growing role and gives us a bit of security, he deserves a bump in pay compared to others who will be on more.

He's a very valuable asset so we need to sign him long term, regardless of our financial position. I don't expect us to keep the player long term, but we will receive an excellent fee for a player we bought for about a million quid.
