2024/25 Jarrad Branthwaite

How many points did that better more expansive coach get the next season for Bournemouth by the way? How many did the worst manager in football get for Everton?

It’s as though you just don’t understand context. The vast majority of people on here when we sat in the bottom 3 after 20 games in our second successive relegation battle would have traded anything for premier league safety. We were a complete mess that had just been beaten heavily by the same Bournemouth team you mentioned twice on the spin.

It wasn’t safety with caveats ‘well it will only be a good achievement if the bottom three are decent, or if he gets more than x points’, it was safety at any cost. He did that, and considering the financial future of the club was on the line, at that point it wasn’t about a certain standard, it was a binary outcome, we either stayed up or we didn’t.

I can guarantee you now if we’d have been relegated on 40 points because Leeds and Leicester went on a tear and finished ahead of us that season then you wouldn’t have given a toss at all about the standard, or whether we’d almost stayed up, or the football we’d played in that period, you’d have been laying into Dyche for destroying club and not keeping us up.
Its a valid point, and a big reason why i'm probably still a little on the fence about Dyche while we are in a bit of ownership limbo.

It was a good points haul is difficult circumstances, probably backed by 2 really good runs of form. (just after the deduction and at the end of the season).
But would we not be in trouble of sitting on our hands in this instance?

I'd like the question to be to Dyche to be, good job last season, what's next?

The squads been improved, we are less noosed by PSR etc., but from what i have seen, his only answer appears to be .....more of the same

To be honest, i don't give a toss about the football when we win.
We played great on Saturday....but lost, that was horrible.

I can ask my 8 year old to make dinner for me too. It could be cold, mushy and not look like food, but you could also claim she did the job i asked her to do. Should it not be about a certain standard?

Leicester got 16 points from when Dyche took over that season (only 3 more points than Dyche), Leeds got 13 points.

16 & 13 points from half a season is absolutely terrible, and if either of them put up a fight, we would of gone. That Brighton away game saved our balls.

Bournemouth, for reference, got 22 points in that time. shook Gary O'Neils hand and went and got a better more expansive coach to manage them the following season.

People often forget that the likes of Bournemouth also spent £120m+ net last season.

Everton are the only PL club with + transfer balance in last 5 yrs.

The only club with a + transfer balance the past 3 summer transfer windows.

I do. I have far more hope for the season after seeing the performance on Saturday regardless of the result than I would if we had scabbed a 1-0 win against the run of play. Short term we would be 3 points better off but longer term it would not bode well. The performances of N’Diaye and Tim give us hope for the future. The defence is easily sorted once Branthwaite is back but we look like we have some quality ballers for the first time in a while.
