Jazz

The issue with jazz is people think it's just one thing. It's like saying you like rock, arctic monkeys are rock, godflesh are rock - they don't sound the same

Jazz essentially means 'free' so it can be anything, to an extent

Didn't realize the other Jazz thread was locked but ^^^^^^^^ this is the general public relations issue that "jazz" struggles with. Just like "rock" you can probably find what you are looking for within the vast vast genre that is "jazz."

Always love jazz in the background, but often find it hard to pay attention to as a focal point. I suppose that's a discipline I need to learn. Also love jazz under other types of music, although much of that maybe isn't considered true "jazz." Also, there's a jazz bar in Austin, TX, across the street from my favorite upscale dive bar, that a former coworker wanted to visit. Too bad he got upset and told the boss to F* off, he was really good at his job. He was much less good at controlling his anger and not speaking his mind.

Had a listen .
Like it but is that a new form of jazz or electronica ?
It's yer actual Techno from Detroit (a collaboration with Magic Juan Atkins and Maurizo von Oswald in reality).
To most Techno is nosebleed noise, but the real actual stuff is more complex, rhythmical and innovative, like jazz.
There's a good few artists from Detroit I've followed for almost 40 years, and I hope, like Blue Note etc, the stuff I bought becomes just as valuable 😊

One thing that makes it easier to listen to is thinking that space and silence is also an instrument within itself. No as much on some of the free jazz I guess, but it's there on early Miles, Coltrane etc

Particularly so with Miles.

It's a trick that Stacy Kent ( jazz singer ) uses too
