But you can legally structure contracts based on pay ie. Delph earns 60k a week however if he misses set number of games or doesnt meet certain targets i.e. goals/assists etc etc that 60k a week is halved to 30k with the remaining 30k based on pay as you play or performances like many people on commission etc.

Football clubs would love to implement it but the agents run the game and hold all the cards. The fans are also gullible enough to think that players should be paid multi million contracts no matter how often they actually are doing their jobs or to the level required.

Morgan Schneiderlin on 120k a week putting in half arsed performances is sickening but hey ho the fans think thats acceptable so the gravy train keeps on rolling.

You pay your sky or your season tickets then you accept footballers are paid handsomely.

Always have been always will be.

I can half understand performance based contracts but it just wouldn't work and the injury prone players would end up sueing the players that injured them for loss of earnings.........yet again another no no.

You are an utter plum, name one player, any player that would willingly agree to have their pay cut by up to 50% when they get an injury, minor or major?

Thats the point though if football was regulated in this country the player/agent DOESN'T have an option if they want to play in England signing big money contracts.

If Haaland moves to England he'll a be on 300k+ a week contract. Now say one day Haaland decides he would rather spend his weekends out on the lash and doesn't condition his body as well as he should be and starts picking up more niggles/injuries or in the case of many EFC players decides he just CBA anymore and strolls around the pitch most weekends.

That 300k+ a week investment was based on more than that however the club aint getting the output to why they offered such a big contract. That's ultimately why football has to start changing but it wont as the fans are deluded and would rather keep paying more on tickets/matchday experience / Sky/BT/amazon packages whilst working their bollox off 5-6 days a week for a pittance and claiming there is no need for reform.

If reform happened you would see much more entertaining football with players actually putting in 100% every single week. We as consumers dont get what we pay for these days.

Moaning about player wages being stupid compared to what the average Joe makes is so dumb. So anti labor.

Is the money stupid? Yep. Are owners rich and willing to pay? Yep.
It’s one of the only industries that is a pure meritocracy. It’s one of the only industries that allows the working class to get to the very very top. It’s one of the only industries where the upper echelons are a reflection of the country in terms of private v state school educated.

In that sense, it’s one of the fairest industries there is.

Not sure if you’re aware, but the fans have no say in what the players get played or in fact no say in any part of the players contract whatsoever.

Just in case you didn’t know.

The fans have power if their was a united front across fanbases in the PL including on issues such cheaper tickets, more accessibility etc - look at the ESL with Chelsea fans at Stamford Bridge.

Football is becoming more and more elitist and moving further away from the working class yet we are all just clapping seals happy to get our fix and if we are lucky enough one week our team of millionaire players may decide to press/put in effort on the pitch even though they dont really need to as they still get a full wedge regardless.

Imagine if you or I didn't do our jobs to the required standard / effort wouldn't be long until we had a lot more spare time on our hands.

You’re seriously deluded if you actually think football would be in any way entertaining if you stopped big players from joining clubs by putting ridiculous clauses like pay freezes for injuries, health issues or what not

You could maybe limit fees to agents like Mendez, Riaola etc but again you’d lose out on seeing players because they’d take business elsewhere

Clubs have insurance. They use it.

Not just that but between the 2 of them and their various subsidiaries they near enough look after half the players in the modern game. It would'nt be the wisest move ever.

In very rare/unique circumstances like Dean Ashton I believe. I think if a player in injured for the international sides they could claim something as well.

We won't have claimed anything from Delph/Gbamin and will more than likely been hit with FFP restrictions as an extra kick in the teeth.

You could argue nows the best time for the league to do it with Covid leaving the mainland largely skint.

The reality is a player would still earn more weekly playing in England than say France/Germany/Italy even with a reform on contracts.
