Jermaine Beckford.

I remember a striker from the lower leagues that we took a punt on, he was banging in the goals too, looked really promising.....Brett Angell.
I think we should definitely leave him be.

Beckford has decided to stay at Elland Road, until the close season anyway. He will then decide his future I heard.

He has a valuation of only £2 million I read somewhere, may well be accurate.

All very well cutting down teams the caliber of Colchester and Exeter in League One, but can he cut it at premier level, I always remember years ago Guy Whittingham scored like 42 goals for Portsmouth in one season, was transfered to Aston Villa and fell flat on his arse, it never worked out, this has been seen before, can't say for sure if Beckford would be a premier league success, he'll no doubt be leaving Yorkshire, who knows where, will keep an eye on this one.

Nobody can tell for sure if anyone will be a success at any club in any league. If he was a guaranteed success he wouldn't be approaching the end of his contract & potentially available on a free having spent years in the lower leagues, he'd have moved on for a huge fee a long time ago. We haven't got the money to regularly buy proven players (unless we sell established 1st teamers of our own) & so we have to take chances on less experienced players who don't cost large percentages of our transfer budget.

Whether Beckford will be any good, only time will tell but he's on a free so the risk is minimal & if Moyes thinks he's worth taking a punt on, I'm 100% happy to go with it.

I remember us having a manager called David Moyes who signed a player who'd done well in the lower leagues & looked really promising.....Tim Cahill who as we all know went on to become vital for us & then a World Cup star for his country.

He then signed another player from the lower leagues who looked promising.....Joleon Lescott who became a 1st team player, then a full international & who we sold at around an £18m profit.

I know nothing about Beckford, but to assume he's crap due to Brett Angell being crap when he signed around 15 years ago is an abysmal comment

I don't want him but Moyes has a fantastic eye for spotting talent from lower leagues - Cahill, Gosling, Baines, Lescott, Jags etc.. so whatever he wants i'll happily go with. IMWT

Wouldn't touch him with a shitty stick. As already said on this thread, he's Newcastle class...in every sense of the word.

This makes me think that this is not going to happen. They are just using us to get him a move to someone else....probably Man City!

Not sure if i want him anyway.

Exactly.....

Its a "Ooooh look at this...Everton are interested, that means he's good....but it not bindling. Any more takers?"

I sense Harry coming in and getting him.

"If he bangs in another 20 goals, there might be bigger teams than Everton coming in for him."

Who like? Man United, Liverpool, Arsenal? They're the only "big" club after us.....

Or does he mean B£G CL£B?

Either way, he wont sign for us. We'll balls it up and he'll go elsewhere. Which I wont be too fussed about.

This means Saha's off then?

I doubt Everton will be complaining either...it makes the club look like they're active in the transfer market.

You can see it cant you? Pinning hopes on trying to sign someone on a free....falls out last minute while we're in the States in pre-season. Last minute scramble in the transfer deadline.

Its okay because we've got players who are "like new signings" somewhere...(y)

It begins.
