Morning HB!!! full of joy i see.
It was desperation based on, a) He was injured, b ) He is is still injured & c) We hadnt signed anyone all summer
We got him basically on a free, his attitude since he got here has been spot on, he's also been involved in 13 games this season and missed two or three.
It's far to early to judge in my opinion, what happened to giving players a chance to prove themselves here? I'm not saying he will prove you wrong but we've got a full season to judge him.
If he had a major injury then I'd agree with you but he hasn't. He's just got a little problem with his hamstring and he'll be back in one of the next two games. All players get knocks.
2 knee injuries, a groin strain and various hamstring strains in recent years, are not as you put it a 'little problem' TB. This is a guy who is on the quick road to retirement
For Man utd yes, hopefully this is a fresh start. You can tell he wants it, his attitude has been spot on and I think like all players he should be given a chance.
If he doesn't prove you wrong then fair enough, it's very possible that he won't given his history but he shouldn't be judged on 13 appearences. The season is far from over and as of now he has no major injuries. He'll be back in one of the next two games.
Thats just at Everton! He has already broke down 2 or 3 times already at Everton. As i said yesterday TB i admire your loyalty to him but he was a desperation signing and it isnt going to happen, he is a dead duck
Yet he's still been involved in 13 games this season, speaks for itself really HB. He's only missed a few games this season with little knocks.
It's not about loyalty mate, it's about giving players the chance to prove themselfs. Every player deserves that, whether you like them or not. I think that's where we differ though so we'll leave it at that.
Games missed - Portsmouth, Stoke, Liege (Home), Villa, Man City. He also only started 6 of the games
In addition, I will always go back to the Lee Carsley quote about the Everton dressing room not having any "big time Charlies" and that every player knows his place. Pennant would be no exception and my thought would be that if he were to get out of line, Neville, Cahill, and the others would deal with it internally. You don't hear too many negative headlines about Everton players in the press when you think about it. The few times you do, it's done and dusted and they move on.
If you look at his 'actual' contribution though and take his goals out, he has contributed next to nothing.
He is never going to be fit, he will come in trying to get match fit, break down and were back to square one. It was a desperation signing by Moyes and thats being kind about it
Wrong on all points. There have been times when he's been quiet but overall he's been excellent in his build up play, holding the ball up, running with the ball, off the ball, everything you'd want from a forward including goals. Take goals away from Yakubu & he barely offers anything but he's worth having for the goals, take goals away from Saha & he still gives a lot to the team.
He suffered badly with injuries at Utd but he still got a decent number of games & at Everton he'll have less games to prepare for so he could put his injury problems behind him. Nobody knows how it's going to turn out so to say he's never going to be fit is bullshit, he might still have more problems than the average player, he might not.
The fact that he's had many injury problems suggests he's a risky signing but the terms of the deal completely took away that risk. If he turned out to be unfit all the time, we wouldn't pay a bean, if he got over his fitness problems we'd pay a little bit. On his day Saha is a top class player, nobody who knows anything about football will deny that & we've signed him on a no risk deal. It wasn't a desperation signing at all, it was a no risk deal to get a player who on his day is brilliant
Not wrong in the slightest. In them 2 games he scored 3 goals he literally stunk the place out and if we had more numbers he possibly wouldnt have been on the field. He has contributed very little in build up play and has the touch of a midwife.
As for the last bit, if you dont believe signing a player 2 days before the transfer window closed and was our 1st signing, with his injury record and was injured at the time isnt a desperation signing then we have very very differing views on what is good enough for Everton
