Let’s not ask too much of him just yet. Virginia dropping across centrally and playing the Doucoure role when we’re out of possession would be enough for now

If he plays as a sweeper, hits a one-two on the right wing, then tracks back, its not much really.

....I’m not writing him off, especially a goalkeeper. I’d be chuffed & very pleasantly surprised, though, if he’s the answer.

I don't think you're doing anything wrong at all mate, you watch the 23's as much as anyone and get a good feel for players. Thats all it is too, sometimes you get a feel for a player you watch and you just fancy them or not. A lot of the time, these can often go wrong as well. I remember watching Dowell for the 18's as a 16 year old, and wondered what he was doing on the pitch-I was much more impressed with a lad called Donuhue, and yet they've got to very different levels. What you realise is, the coaches see these players a lot more than we do.

I quite like Virginnia from the 2 games I've seen in the 1st team. I share your view that for the 23's he's been a bit underwhelming, and the oan he had went badly. His stock was very high at 19 in that season we won the league, but he hasn't seemed to kick on.

He's got a big opportunity if Pickfords out for a few games though. While I haven't slaughtered Olsen, he is no better than solid so there is a chance for Virginnia to show what he can do.

I remember that season in the PL2 everyone was talking about how much potential he had, and it seemed exciting for us. Goalkeepers develop at different rates, and I think only De Gea, or 'even' De Gea was not there as a 19 year old...its hard to think of young goalkeepers under 25 who have really made it, so I hope that he sticks around and becomes good for us, because it'll save a lot of money to have a homegrown proper no.2 (or no.1!)

OLD BRAZILIAN ROADS TAKE ME HOME
TO THE PLACE I BELONG
JOAO VIRGINIA!!

he looks so solid and composed for someone who has been thrown to a starting position with little PL game experience.

Gordon West was first choice goalie in a title winning side at 17. This lad may surprise us, he has nothing to lose. Andy Rankin wasn't that old when thrown into battle.
