....he did fine last night. Goalkeepers usually mature with age, so he might improve but from what I’ve seen at U23 level there are not many aspects of his game that give me much hope.

We have to fulfill fixtures at youth level so need a few keepers below the first team to enable this. I have thought he was given a new deal to enable this more than serious consideration he’s one for the future.

i‘d be chuffed if everybody is right & he is the real deal but I have my doubts.

He had that excellent season in the 23's a couple of years back, but probably hasn't kicked on how he would have hoped. I know this will sound odd, but there are limits to what you can learn from the Under 23's. I'm not saying players should coast, but some will.

I'd agree, that in terms of dominating bis box, there is a bit of a concern. He's not the oldest, but he's also not the biggest which is never a great combination.

Yesterday though, I thought he did very well. It wasn't just his saves, but I also felt his kicking and decision making was good and there was a calmness to his performance. I also liked his handling, there were one or two that would have been easy to spill, or tip round the post but he caught them well. For a 21 year old, I was quietly impressed with him.

We lived up in the South - East at the time Groucho about 20 mins from Reading, we knew a fair few Reading fans and they said they had never seen anything like him he was that bad, to be fair like he's still only a young lad.

It's also worth noting, he played 2 games for Reading. I mean it's hardly a sample size I would use to judge a 19 year olds entire career.

....City aren’t the type of side to put keepers under pressure lumping balls into the box. Virginia is calamitous, he’s not commanding.
Give him a break , he’s only 21. What do you base your “ calamitous” on , presumably the two mistakes he made at Reading over a year ago when he was a 20 year old finding his way in the Championship? You couldn’t tell either way last night if he was “commanding “ or not, I’m prepared to wait and see a bit more before labelling him ‘ calamitous” and “ not commanding”.

very very much this, Nev had an awful start here did he not, turned out ok did he not lol

Virginia is unlikely to reach that level but he's definitely good enough to be 3rd choice and has scope to improve to 2nd. Potentially even get to 1st choice but if he's a strong back up that will do.

I think Neville Southall made errors early in his career good job he wasn't binned off.
When you're a promotion chasing team and your keeper is making really basic errors it's not surprising he got binned off, Just the nature of the beast nor should we use the two games to label his whole career but he didn't play more than two games at Reading for a reason.

....just from U23 games I’ve seen where he comes out & flaps at crosses, but you watch more at that level than me. I’ll certainly bow to your better judgement on this but I’ve never thought watching him that there is anything in his game to suggest he was one for the future.

Fingers crossed he’s what we need.

I don't blame them for not playing him again. In fact it probably saved him from having his confidence totally destroyed. However having 2 bad games doesn't make you a bad goalkeeper. I'm hoping when he came back we worked on the weaknesses and he is now improved. Time will tell at the moment I'm happy with him as 3rd choice. The rest is up to him.

He had a couple of nervy moments in his first ever games in first team football playing for a team he'd been with for a week. It's fine to ignore it imo.
