This won't be a popular view based on everyone's reactions to how he played tonight but I still don't think he's good enough for the level we need. talk of him being our no1 keeper is just a bit crazy.

Lots of poor aspects of his game, doesn't command the area.. doesn't come for aerial balls... Doesn't rush out to claim balls he could make it to before the defender/attacker. And his diving for the pens was abysmal. If he just stayed on his line and used his big frame to dive at the correct moment we would be through.

He played well tonight at general shot stopping. Made some saves look slightly better than they were imo. And had a bit of a mare for their 1st. Was sliding on his knees as it trickled to the side of him. Should have stayed big.. Not run out at it so far and should have used his leg to save if the shot came in.

I fully expect I'm gonna get slated for this post

Not at all mate. You are entitled to an opinion.

And I agree on lots of those points.

Worth sticking with him for the time being I say though. As if we have a choice!

That was a baptism of fire.

I bet if you'd told him before the game he'd miss in the penalty shoot out to lose the match he'd of said rubbish.

Couldn't make it up.

Chatting absolute crap mate..

Only joking! Some valid points. I thought he made 3 absolute top drawer saves mate and I'm not one to heap praise on anyone lightly. I thought he came out and caught well, smashed a few players when punching which I like to see. Agree with the first, it was sloppy but it was piss poor from Stones and Everton all round. Overall, he very very nearly won us the game and it's a safe that isn't what we are talking about tonight.

Very good tonight, didn't think he was capable.

Shame he dived about an hour too early for some of the pens, but he did well to even get us to that stage.

There's a few on here who persevered, said give him time to get some confidence, and low and behold, what a joy that was to watch the lad today, up against a physical giant like Carroll, and he did brilliantly, some of those saves were top drawer, and he has to be proud.

Martinez saw something in the lad to bring him with him to Everton, and he did keep a clean sheet in the FA Cup final after all, so who knows? Maybe we have a gem on our hands for £500,000, a bargain, or maybe not, but i think this should seriously give Martínez a good headache, when it comes back round to having Howard back.

Well done lad, done everyone proud tonight.

If only we could merge Robles' shot stopping and Howard's commanding presence.

Tiel Robards sounds nice.

Thought he did really well tonight claiming crosses and commanding his area. Corners obviously poor but still.

Nobody should get slated for voicing an opinion.

I do however think he commands his area FAR better than Howard. Clattering through Stones and (a WHU Player) to punch clear shows he's not averse to leaving his 6 yard box like the regular incumbent.

Was he at fault for the goal? Maybe, But he was set for the near post as he didn't expect Stones to get beaten so easily. (Valencia had his number all evening)

As said earlier, he keeps the jersey on merit.

Cheers

He has played less than half a dozen first team games in probably a season and a half. He is still an extremely young goalkeeper. We make allowances all the times for errors made by youngsters such as Stones and Barkley(rightly so) but even though Robles is probably more a novice as a goalkeeper than either Barkley or Stones there are some who will not make any concessions .

As a youngster he will make mistakes, he makes relatively few and we all know that he is playing behind a defence which has been porous all season. I think he has the potential to be top class. He has all the physical attributes and if he keeps playing like that Howard cannot be brought back ahead of him.

Had a great 120 mins tonight and deserves a lot of credit.

The shootout however he was awful!! His save should have been ruled out anyway as he was way off his line. He was just guessing and diving so early he made it ridiculously easy for the west game players
